Luikse Vechter aka Liege Fighter Thread

I finally got some Liege Fighters. I was just wondering how often do off colored chicks show up? They were still drying off in the picture. But you can see the striped one all came from same batch of eggs.

All black usually turn out to be hens. Chipmunk are always roosters in my experience. My hens are all black or black with slightly colored heads. Chipmunks turn into black/gold or black birchen. I have one too and one hen that a

Whoops.

One hen and one roo are a dark slate color, not quite black. I think these are called blue, but I’m not sure.

I wouldn't have thought a chipmunk would turn black anything. What about leg and beak color?
Sorry for the bad pics. They don’t sit still when they are small. Chipmunk turned into the roo in the pic.

I’ve had a very low survival rate of ones that look like penguins. Don’t know why.

Awesome. I hope mine survive only got 3 out of 19 eggs. I truly hope is a rooster and two hens.

Hey all! I was searching around for the BYC Liege thread- wondered everyone’s experience sexing them early on. I got a LF chick as an extra from GFF, so she (now he lol) is the oldest. Metallics on the neck started coming in and now an occasional half-crow. Guess I can’t call it ‘big girl’ anymore. Majestic though for certain! I had read horror stories about the Liege genetics and hatch rates so I went heavy- got a total of 15 eggs (GFF). To my amazement, 11 healthy chicks ‘punched’ quite literally I might add, their way out of the eggs. The hatched LV are 6 weeks now and traditional tail feathering, legs, etc. don’t seem quite as reliable with the breed- I mean they’re ALL big lol. Only 1 or 2 that are taking forever to feather with the telltale male back stripe have been obviously cockerels. (They look like they’re going to be monsters!) wondering what your experiences have been. Pics of ‘Big Girl’ (going to need a new name I guess)
