Mabel's Broody Adventure ENDS

Am i assuming correctly...just following the mother's instinct thing that
1. I give her the high protein foods she likes
2. get her to poo daily

That she will regain her strength???

Yup

Whew that's awesome....I'm concerned that even after hobbling around today her left wing was still not very coordinated, hanging down a bit...ok scrambled eggs for breakfast!

Cheryl you are doing great.....If you feel she needs extra help, you might consider vitamin water. Remember that she's concentrating on those eggs but yes, she must get off the nest for food water and evacuation!

When I had a broody once, all the other hens went in her area went broody....Watch out this could be contagious....Especially if they see all the TLC you're giving her....

Oh and one more thing.....follow your instincts with her....but mainly don't disturb her too many times.....Sounds like she's a dedicated mommie!

thanks she's away from the other girls in the "beach house" in the garage (I'm pretending it's called - cuz it's a plastic swimming pool for my dogs!) See picture below. i already have her on vitamin water...should I also give her some vitamin E by medicine dropper????

OH help...I took mabel out to poo and she still can't stand. Her right side seems fine and both her wings will flap but she is not able to stand on her left leg and her wing droops on that side. She poo'd again ( not a monster one, but big enough) and I gave her a full body massage, focusing on the left leg. It didn't help. She doesn't squawk at any point during the massage.

I put her back on her nest. I see what's happening, her legs are splayed outward on top of the eggs so she can get really flat.

I gave her a vitamin E capsule like Cyn suggested.

I'm so worried

Well, I'm not really sure but it sounds like she's having a hard time covering all the eggs to her satisfaction and straining herself in the process. How many eggs did you end up putting under her? Is there any chance you could buy or borrow an incubator and take some away from her? There's a good chance that she'd take them back if you put them under her with the rest as day olds. Hopefully Speckeledhen or one of the others will chime in here soon. She sure is one determined girl!
