Mad at TSC

And if you lose chicks and need a few more to keep them company, just be sweet and polite when asking for a lower minimum, it works! ;) or find chicks that are being pecked and be like, “I’ll take em off your hands for free” that works too. That’s how I got one of my prettiest girls, Hope.

Yeah, but I went in the other day and they have two little pitiful cheeps left sitting there. They need to be able to count (and divide by 6) if that's the rule. Just saying.

Chicks are ordered in lots of multiples of 25. Also, when 200 chicks come in on a Monday, there may be 15 dead by Tuesday afternoon. It's not possible for the store to achieve perfect math in this regard.

FWIW, there is a 6 chick minimum at all of the stores around me, and as far as I know for all the stores in my state. Back yard sales are not regulated. I don't consider this to be a bad rule, BUT, there should be some leeway for the person who needs a few chicks to accompany a lone hatchling. Or, for the person who has their 6, or a home hatched clutch, but would like to pick up 2 of a desired breed to accompany them.

YMMV on this. But, it is well worth a try.

Lol works for me! I can tell you, I’ve never bought the minimum. The first time I got eight, and didn’t know that was the minimum, and then I lost a chick and went back for another, I bought three when the minimum was six. Sweet and polite. Then fast forward a year or so, and I took two chicks that were being pecked for free, when the minimum was six. Then one died, and you can’t just have one chick, so I went to a rural king and I don’t remember wut the minimum was, but I got two Wyandottes. One died this past winter so I’m gettin more in spring. I’m going to use that catch someone and ask them to buy extra and I’ll pay you trick.

I'm in Scottsville and I too was a victim of the 6 chick rule. I had already bought 6 pullets, but the next week found they had 3 banties left in a tank. They were so cute. But my chicken math is bad enough, I didn't need 3 more LF, so, no banties for me lol.
There is a swap meet here on the 1st and 3rd saturdays, Tim and Susie's Henhouse. You could make a trip over if you can't find anything there.

When I did purchase from TSC I didn't have room for 6 only for 4 so I did something a little bit terrible. I waited until they boxed them up and left, pulled out 2 put them back in the tub and checked out with the 4 I had accommodations for. I reverse shoplifted chicks. I'm not proud of it, but it was better than them being cramped up. Don't worry, the two I put back were scooped up before I even left the store. :)
<GASP> Awwwww, shame on you!!

I wonder how many chicks meet an untimely end due to the minimums? Someone has to buy 6 chicks but only wants 3 and only has room for 3....what do they do? The "reverse shoplifting" trick was a nice way to lower your chick amount. I bet there are a lot of less humane ways people get the number down to the amount they actually wanted.

ok so I am getting 12 chicks. Was gonna get three black austrolorp chicks at TSC and get three SLW tomorrow from a local feed store. Then six EE the 28 from the same feed store. I had the guy get three and was like that’s it. He said it is Ky state law I have to buy six at a time. I am sure I seen people get less than six before ( yes I have been to TSC getting chick fixes till I could get the rest ). So I called the feed store and he said get how many I wanted! So now I am not getting the BAL. This makes me sad and mad. My house is only large enough for the 12 I wanted a small variety in my ladies but I quest I’ll have 6 and 6.
our Tsc in Ohio has a minimum of 6 chicks or 6 ducklings. Can’t even mix and match. It’s listed all around the chick area. Just buy six because you’ll surely have an accidental cockerel or 2 (even though the sign says pullets) and then you can pick your favorites.
