Mad at TSC

I’m in Ontario Canada, we have a 5 chick “rule”....but if you’re willing to pay a small order fee, you can get however many you want of any breed. That’s not through TSC though, although our TSC does the small order fee as well and you can get less than 5 there as well....but we can’t buy chicks in store here....they need to be ordered....and there are only a handful of breeds available (most popular layers like leghorns and RIR’s, sex link, etc). We get our chicks through a really great hatchery instead, they have tons of selection.

I am in Rhode Island and the minimum at TS is 12 birds! Go figure..the smallest state and such a large number! I have chickens already and want to add some ducks, but 12 is too many. I am hoping to purchase maybe 4. I will have to look somewhere else or hope that they end up with an odd number of ducks at some point and let me just buy less ( they know I already have many chickens ).

Depending on where you are in RI, head over to CT. The Norwich Agway will sell you less. That's where I got the 4 on day and the 2 another. I got them w/in days of each other.

Thanks! I don’t think it’s that far..Rhode Island is so small anyways lol! I’ll check it out

The lady at our Theisen's said we had to take 6, or maybe it was 4 or 3. I convinced her to let me take just 1 LOL, after I explained we had like 12 chickens at home. This was last year btw.
I think that they should let you take however few you want IF you show pictures of your flock ( I know you have pictures of your chickens on your phone) and explain that you are not taking them for brief entertainment and fun for Easter like some jerks, and that you are a responsible chicken owner addicted to getting more chicks

I don't know about any set "state laws" regarding chick buying minimums but our TSC also has something close to the 6 chicken 2 duck. Other than that our Shipton's Big R, Co-OP (don't got much of anywhere else to buy them) don't seem to have minimums because I have bought in 2's before.

Minimums are annoying but I see why they are needed/helpful, hope the chicks you do end up getting go well for you!
