Here (NW Ontario), to order a dozen quail eggs from a reputable hatchery (we don’t have access to the variety of hatcheries you guys do south of us haha) it’s usually $10-12 for normal pharaohs, and $15-20 for the fancier colors/celadon before shipping. Locally I think they’re around $5 a dozen, but again, just pharaoh. I think I’m the only one in this area with some different colors. Easy to sell anyways. Lol.
Thanks! That gives me another idea of what the variety of prices might be. I believe I am aiming towards purchasing the "variety" of tuxedos from Myshire. (Bummer you don't have access to more stuff in Canada. Do you have more access when its not all coronacrazy?)
Note: What is the best kind of coturnix in your opinion? The Tuxedos, pandas, etc.?

Best kind varies. I like the Italian and golden Manchurian the best colorwise, can't have tuxedos because my quail pick at white feathers and if you're looking to eat them, the jumbo are the best because they're big enough to butcher young

It really depends on what your purpose is for them. Meat birds? Jumbos as above are a good choice, more meat per bird. Eggs? Doesn’t really matter what they look like. For me, I like variety in the looks of my birds, and I like to see the crosses of different colors. I like the looks of celadon eggs, and I like the variation you get with the different patterns. Currently I have a silver pharaoh, a silver tux, a golden Italian, and a Tibetan tux - I sold all the others from that first hatch. I’ve got German pastel eggs coming, to add in some different color genetics, and I also put in an order for sex link eggs so I can separate at hatch and raise according to what their purpose will be. (The boys are all for eating lol). So if you want eggs from pretty birds, find what appeals to you and get those. If your purpose is to raise for meat, go for a variety/line that are big and meaty. :)
ETA: as for getting access to eggs from further away, it’s the border crossing/importing that’s the issue. CFIA makes it difficult to get any “live” livestock across without a bunch of paperwork and hoops to jump through. :(

Visually I love tuxedos, in fact I found that I was so happy with my all tuxedo hatch, I don’t think I’m going to aim to hatch non tuxes any more. They’re just so cute. My tuxes tend to be on the bigger side, my largest bird is my pharaoh tux roo, however they have small eggs generally (not all, just what I happen to have gotten). Since I want to get my egg size larger, I’ve been hatching some of my larger eggs as well with each hatch.

You can see Tiger Millionaire, my Pharaoh tux,in the front right in the pen (bottom right bird in photo), but I’m going to go try to get a good pic, I think he’s so handsome.
