Magpie Ducks

I have two Magpies and 4 Khakis.  Were I to do it over again, I would get all Magpies.  They are much calmer, and have better personalities, than my Khakis.  Khakis are much higher strung!  And my hen lays a large egg 6 days a week without fail.  She is inclined to go broody, so come Spring I am hoping to have more Magpies!  But need to separate the birds since my Khaki drake is very "attentive" and bullies the Magpie drake even though the Magpie is much larger than he is.

Awww! congrats Super sweet...I can't wait to get the season going again this year! Markings on your wee one are nice...
Markings you see as a duckling will be markings in the adult duck! Something that I appreciate when I am selling babies in the spring.
How wonderful too see so many new babies already on their way...growing up with great ducky people! Beauties they will be!

Stumbled across two magpies at the local feed store and grabbed em ? Wasn't sure if they were magpies but since they were the only two in a sea of Pekins, roughens (possibly mallard) and a handful of cambells, I grabbed em. Found which hatchery they came from and found them to be magpies. One looks pretty well colored, one not so much (not enough of a cap on the head) here's hoping I didn't get two drakes (g) anyone in Texas with good magpies?

I got my Magpie from a TSC, here in TX!! There was 2 & a Khaki Campbell in a sea of Pekin. I could only get 3, so I picked 1 of each. Magpie's seem to be the most affectionate :)! Mine are almost 5 weeks old.

Beside is my beautiful white mandarin drake. It was a sad day when an ermine got him...evil critter. Never lost another duck since...just one of those moments in life I guess...still have his partner, a daughter and another pair or normal coloured ones. Anyways, back to Magpies...don't know what it'd take to ship them...I imagine vets and paper work...I should one time look into the procedure...I've recvd ducklings from a wonderful waterfowl sanctuary you all know in OR shipped to NY and crossed to Canada...health certificate/paper is $150...so I imagine the procedure for smaller breeders be similar. When I see what the options are I will notify here...even hatching eggs...we ship those across Canada every spring...right now much focus is on our Waterfowl/Poultry/Gamebird mounted feeders we produce...which I will post in sales section soon. Busy mom ...you know how it is! Here is more pics of some of my crew. I have a flock of 18 magpies.7 saxony.8 rouen and 4 mandarines. QUACK! Smiling....a good chunk of winter time for chores on these guys...still working on a duck waterer...still experimenting and needs another improvement before i offer it out to others through my site...i love my ducks! but not the water chore-especially in the winter...they need baths and full facial access to drink and clean...best for healthy happy ducks...I'm devoted to letting ducks love their water and keeping those hobbyists loving ducks! Although lately I'm planning my first batch of baby Magpies again...the kids miss the brooder age and those first swims...I try to get breeds separated mid february... for 1st setting late march into April and 2 more in May...hatching eggs after that go out or in between settings....in the meantime it can get pretty noisy at feeding time and when i call the stragglers in before dark! Anyone else have Magpie pics to share?

Here are my duckies!

Hello... I have a black drake that I am totally in love with. A friend of mind gave me her two magpies late last summer. Unfortunately I lost my blue drake to a predator last fall. So now I just have my big boy. I have been looking all over for some girl friends for him. The only place that I seem to find them are on the big hatchery sites that have a minimum order of 10. I really don't want more then 4. I'm sure that I could sell the extras, but after I spend time with them I'm sure that I won't want to.

Is there anyone out there that might have some Magpie Ducks for sale. I would prefer blue, but I'm not going to turn away any black magpies. Can anyone help me? I live in New York.

How do you tell the difference in Magpies and Anconas? Here's my baby but not sure what she is! I've heard both!

I say both of those are magpies :). Anconas are mostly white with smaller black splotches in random places. Magpies have black backs and a black cap on the top of their heads. The rest is white. Most magpies have more black than they should; they can have small amounts of black on their heads and necks and an all black tail. It is hard to get "true colored" magpies.

Thanks for the info.
