Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

Easter Egger!
(ETA: You can see that my humidity has only gone from high to way too high. Gotta rely on those huge aircells. I have 4 more pips: 1 Speckled Sussex and 3 Easter Egger. No idea why I'm hatching early. Shipped eggs, kept cool, temps inside my water wiggler about 99.0.)

I am telling you this Silkie will not get off her eggs EVER. She is suposed to be in lockdown but I am going to need to take her off to poop once a day. Will it hurt the eggs?

This may just be me, but if that little baby has zipped fairly well, it's done absorbing the yolk and its blood, and I'd pop off the top to let it relax a bit. It will at least assure it won't suffocate itself. Don't ever take a chick out of the half-shell, though. Chick on the half-shell has to stay that way until the chick can extricate itself, unless glued.

I'd get the panter out, too- that's not really a good thing. Particularly since panting won't help it cool itself because evaporation is soooo poor in high humidity.

In a Genesis, you'll return to good heat and humidity quickly, so it ought not be an issue.

EE1 is helping SS2 to hatch! It's call and response, and when SS2 gets excited, I can see him moving behind the pip!
This is crazy. Oh, my, I am going to get so addicted...
This is amazing.

Renee you are a grandma...one of the eggs marked d'uccle has hatched at 8:21am...it was the egg that was marked something else and then d'uccle written, another is pipped so

I am running to scbatz33's house to take care of her critters and picking up a brodermate for this little guy...just in case. Will report back after I get home and see if anyone else is in there.

I've been wondering the same thing. In the Genesis, my humidity is currently 77%. My first little guy is not dry yet and he's motivating the others, but if I wanted to take out a few tonight and move them to the brooder so they don't keep kicking the others, would that be safe? Last time I stupidly opened it and blew into it, it dropped from 81% to 64% and came back up within a few minutes.

Is it safe if there are pippers? A damp chick?
Should I spray water?
Or should I just leave them all alone?

Also, the little guy knocked two other eggs. They rolled around a bit. Will they be okay?

For the judges to decide--these chicks did hatch a bit early, only because they were sent to me significantly early. If I need to take pics of the newer or new-new chicks, just let me know. The perils of the staggered hatches.

If I have already submitted for these contests, I apololgize.

Mahonri- as I was typing up the last post, one of your FCBMs popped out. There was already one chick out when I woke up this morning, but I can't tell what it is.

Eggs, anyone?
