Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Myyyyy! As if there could be a problem giving those away. I have a daughter that lives in Phoenix...I will ask her to come by after the hatch and take any unwanted little cheepers off your hands.

Looks like this is what Ill be setting tomorrow; a couple of wheaten Ameraucanas and olive eggers, and a mixture of Marans. They are mostly young pullets just starting to lay, blues, blacks, cuckoos, wheatens, with a wheaten roo, so I dont know what Ill get out of them; hopefully something! If nothing else, they'll be good for my egg laying flock, I cant keep up with egg orders! If I get any more eggs tomorrow morning, Ill add them too.

My duck got off her eggs this past week and it had gotten down to 21 so I think they are no good and she quit sitting on them totally. I will probably be sticking in a bunch of mixed breed eggs. I have my girls and boys all separated except for the little bantam phx roo in the layer pen. So all these will have Phx roo over who knows what LOL!! I know he does his job with some of the hens but others I don't ever see him with. I wonder what a phx roo x a blue ameraucana would look like?

I hate to walk away from this thread for too long... I'll get lost trying to catch up!

Our marquee is gone... Guess it served it purpose...

I am so debating if I should set chicken eggs and then 3 days later set my quail eggs. If I don't I will have to sit here with my hands tied, watching all of you guys start without me.

I can't start my quail eggs until the 14th. I already have 40, 10 week old chicken babies out in the chicken shed, I don't need anymore chickens.

I have lots of eggs that I just gathered today that I certainly could put in the incubator......oh man I have until high noon tomorrow to make the decision.

Ok, my eggs came today and as Kelly said, we met up to split the loot.

Here's what I kept and Kelly has roughly the same thing. Please ignore the gnarly Icelandic eggs in the middle with candle wax on them. Judge Judy decided a couple of months ago that we are no longer allowed to have bedding in the nest boxes. She removes it as fast as I put it in. Hence, I have gotten a few cracked and broken eggs that I couldn't ship. I took the intact ones and repaired them with wax. I am going to put them in the incubator and hope for the best.

Anyway, I ordered my eggs from Lynne (wmmicasa1) and she generously sent extras so I was able to share with Kelly. We got 8 of her Mille Fleur Cochin eggs and we each are hatching four. If you haven't seen these birds, they are gorgeous.

Lynne is also working on a couple of other projects with black and buff barred cochins. They eggs we got are Black Barred split to Buff Barred and Buff Barred split to Black Barred, all bantam cochins. I am really excited about seeing what we get from these eggs. I am bravely trying to keep a bantam breed again since my run is completely covered.

Anyway, we now know what we are hatching and it is no longer a secret! I am anxiously awaiting the stroke of noon! I suppose I should sanitize the incubator, right? The fact that I have left it until now may send Mahonri over the edge!

Good luck to everyone.
