Hey ChooksChick; what are these?........

WHAT are they? They are incubators.

RCom = name of another incubator .... here is a link to show what they are...

I looove Turkens. Forget their weird looks, the have the best personalities. . .

I gave up trying to read everything. I'm losing my eyesight already, so think I'll save it for sunsets. LOL

I had a spike. I big one.

I'm not even telling how big, but someone tell me how high your biggest spike was and if they hatched,

Humidity here is 38% and 41% in the two bators.

I wish my shoulder felt better. I can't pull out the Sportsman like this and I have a hard time washing dishes, so turning a screwdriver and getting inside that thing is gonna be a killer. Bought some Arnica gel yesterday and rubbed that in and then I misplaced the tube.

OK what was everyones highest spike and for how long do you figure it was that high?

How many did you hatch afterwards?

I woke up one morning to 111 and had tweaked it before bed. I figure it had been high for hours, but that's not to say the interior of the eggs got that hot, remember!! I still had a great hatch.

That was early on in my incubating career, and before I learned that spikes may affect your thermometer, but not last long enough to affect the egg's insides. You may do more damage by touching the thermostat and starting a see-saw effect that could last days than if you actually just opened the lid to let out the heat and watched it to see if it settles down.

It's hard to know, unless you know your incubator.

I wouldn't worry- just keep a close eye on it...but I don't know how high it got.

My highest spike was 115 for 1 1/2 with a hatch of 4 out of 20 eggs. most of the eggs weren't even fertile, so really the odds were pretty good.

My highest spike without a hatch was what I can guess to be 135 or so, since the thermometer needle was burried past 120 which is the highest it goes. I have no idea how long it was that, because I had misplaced my thermometer for about a week. Needless to say nothing hatched from that batch. My Mom's DH decided he would try to "fix" the thermostat after it came unscrewed. He didn't bother to tell me this until after the fact.

The only time I ever have a temp spike is when someone bumps the thermostat. When a temp is set it stays there without spiking.

I love my Hova Bator Forced Air Model with a Wafer Thermostat.

Turns out we'll be out of town Sunday and Monday (19-20th). This is about halfway through the 21-day incubation period, right? I've seen from sources that there is a potential temperature spike halfway through the period, when the embryos get to making their own heat and the temperature needs to be adjusted down. Will this potentially happen while I'm gone? Is there something I can do to prepare for it or do I just have to let it be? The temperature has been pretty consistently 99-100 so far.

I have used the wafer thermostat for 7 years now. It is designed to prevent a temp spike and it was one of the first methods used. the brass wafer is filled with air which expands and contracts with heat. When the brass expands too far the thermostat shuts off and won't turn back on until the temperature drops again and then it turns back on.

I have had little problem that I can recall with a temp spike unless the stat is adjusted to a different temp.
