Tried my hand at candling, but not having a ton of luck.
Of course, I've only got 5 white eggs to look at, the others being Marans and Ameraucanas. In those I can see the shadow of the yolk, that's about it.
In the 5 white silkie eggs, 2 definitely don't look right with too large sized air sacs in them and no sign of a dark spot, veins, or rings...all those things I googled pictures of. In the other 3, I see the yolk and nothing else discernable. One of those 3 has large pores in half the shell. So, I take it my chances of getting a silkie in this hatch are nil.
I have no idea on the other eggs. I can tell the blue eggs have the right sized air sac in them and I can see a hazy shadow of a yolk, but impossible to tell if there is veining. My Marans eggs are either too dark to see anything or too splotched with dark pigment to tell what is what.
So...I have 5 dud white eggs and a bunch that I can't tell.
Really REALLY hope something develops. 99 to 100 degrees, 45% humidity steady, no funny smells in the 'bator yet. Would just like to see a couple eggs that are definitely developing. *sigh*
