Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

I candled mine, because I couldn't stand it any longer. Of course, I had no idea what I was looking at! Even after looking at the pics. A couple of eggs just have yolks, but we see veining in them; they were the ones furthest from the lightbulb. The other half are dark, so it looks like those will be our keepers. We will check again on Tuesday. In the meantime, we have abandoned our "egg turner on a stick" and switched to the XO method with the eggs lined up more evenly toward the bulb. Since we could see veining on all eggs, but one, at least we know they were almost all fertile. This is getting fun! I've had to distract myself by cleaning out our "bonus room" to prepare it for painting. Otherwise, I'd spend my days staring at a box of eggs! So, in our case it will be a "which comes first; the chicks or the remodel?"

I'm home. It was a LONG tough day at work. I am so bushed. I signed up for a continuing ed class in Scottsdale for tomorrow morning, but I don't know if I'll make it.

Had to add water to the bators. Got 7 eggs today. all ams. 7 of 13 is getting better.

I candled all 42 of my eggs, and out of that I have 25 that look like they are coming along. My shipped eggs are doing better than my own eggs. Looks like the boys aren't doing their job in this cold weather.

Superchemicalgirl, temporary humidity highs and lows aren't all that critical I don't believe. It takes a while for the moisture to leave the egg. Temperature is more important. The eggs need to lose moisture or there won't be enough air in the egg for them to survive their escape from the shell.

Mahonri, if you can take the class later, stay home and recuperate. All in favor say Aye.

So the peer pressure got to me and I also candles my eggs. I usally wait till day 10 or later. Then right at lockdown day.
