I wanted to add, I didn't candle yet I'm trying to be good. I have family coming up this weekend from out of state and I think I may candle them Saturday night so the GC can see what they look like.

Largest eggs I've gotten are from my Golden Cuckoo Marans, Cinnamon Queens and Rhode Island Reds. Most double yolkers have come from RIRs

Best layers of that bunch were the GC Marans and RIRs. Cinnamon Queens usually only lay 3 or 4 times a week. RIR & GCMs 4-6 times a week.

Most consistent layer I ever had was a BSL. She laid every single day for over 3 months without missing a day. But her eggs were only slightly larger than medium.

My most consistant layer was an EE Sommer gave me--a Aloha cull who is approaching her 5th year. Her name is BattleAxe. She laid an egg EVERY day ALL SUMMER until that illness went through my flock. As it stands now, yesterday was the first day I had gotten a blue or green egg from my 8+ EEs in 2 months.

Besides her, my BEST layers have always been the OEGBs. One noisy egg every day, 2/3 the size of a regular egg for 1/3 the feed.

My biggest layers are the RIR, the SS, and the now-freeloading EEs.

Brahmas I find that they are great layers of pretty pinkish brown eggs large to extra large and the hens are some of the sweetest personalities that I have come across. You cant find a much prettier rooster than a large dark brahma. Second only to that I would say giants but they dont lay nearly as often as the brahmas but are usually so laid back that even a young child can handle them.
