Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

I dont think it would smell unless bacteria got in there. And that can REALLY smell.

I had a turkey egg explode once. We had to repaint the room.

AGREE! I did my first few in the kitchen sink and WOW, what a stench!

Now I do mine into the compost bin on a shovel, and it still stinks!

I have not been able to eat an egg since my first "eggtopsie"!

I have this new hobby where:

1. I take apart anything I can get my hands on and put parts and pieces into my incubator.

2. Spend ALL day, every day on the computer alternating between BYC and ebay.

3. Spend hundreds of dollars on eggs, yes eggs, have them shipped to me, in the mail; get them nice and hot (99-ish) and wait for them to explode!

4. Buy one of EVERY model of thermometer/ hygrometer available in our town.

5. Spend several HOURS every day staring into a broken television (by broken, I mean that it no longer shows TV, but it heats nicely and makes a mean rotten egg soup)!

And I am having the time of my life!

Ok I did the risk:benefit analysis of really cold outside vs really bad egg smell indoors.

16 degrees out and me in really warm microfleece with my woodstove on... did not want to go outdoors. Especially considering I haven't shoveled my front porch yet.

The good news is dual: nothing smelled AND those 8 eggs were just undeveloped yolk. Thankfully. I didn't want to cry tonight.

I'm left with 21 eggs out of originally set 29 in my Brinsea Eco incubator:

BLRW (shipped from Georgia) 9/11 that were set

My own barnyard cross with turken roo and the following moms:
EE: 6/6
Banty: 2/3
Unknown: 1/3
Leghorn: 0/2 and a big

Turken: 2/2
Cuckoo Marans: 0/1
Brahma: 1/1

My broody GLW is still on 4 eggs in the coop too, it's been a week! Although I did find her on the wrong nest once when I got home from work and it was below freezing out - those eggs were cold!

Wow, all of those breeds under a Turken? Those are going to make VERY cute/ interesting babies! Please take lots of pictures and post them everywhere you can! If you think of it, please PM me with the picture locations after you put them up, I am fascinated by Turken mixes!
