Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

I'm reading this and wondering, since I have only used broodies temporarily, if I could put some eggs from my overstuffed incubator underneath my broody for lockdown? It's 20 degrees here, would they hatch?

Somebody has offered to ship me free eggs from a cross I'm very interested in . As for buying shipped eggs , I at least want to get this 'bator running down a little better first . As far as my thoughts on 10 eggs for $100 ................................

LOL
Have you seen what the silver laced and buff laced Brahma eggs go for? For the 800.00 bucks they get for a dozen eggs, sure they are worth it but outta my ballpark. I am over the moon right now...out of 24 shipped eggs I have 12 that have hatched, that is amazing! It is always a crapshoot with shipped eggs.

I know that shipped eggs are always a gamble but I will try it again. I probably won't do them in the winter near Christmas time again though. I got lucky, only one cracked egg out of the 8 sent but with worries about eggs getting frozen in shipping and the added volume of packages at this time of year it is even more of a gamble. Maybe a smaller amount would be better? Not sure. All I know is that the package took an extra day to get here because of all of the other packages being shipped this time of year but the box was in good condition maybe because it was smaller. I don't know

I've seen pics of the SLBs , very nice , and I appreciate the effort he went to creating them . But , if I had the money the eggs are going for , which I don't , I would buy an adult pair if I really , really , really had to have some before they become common . [ But that's just the way I am on everything ]

I am right there with you Steve!
I don't have the money but I don't know that I would even if I could afford it.
My birds have to some what pay there way so nothing too expense here

Jerseygirl.......if you have a broody, I'd give her some of the eggs, as long as you're pretty sure she'll stick with it. I was secretly hoping this morning for a broody, so I can do the same thing!

Those silver and buff laced brahma's are spectacular birds, and the work that went into creating them made them worth every penny. But they are still out of my price range, plus the husband would probably shoot me if I spent that much on hatching eggs.

ETA: it will give us something to do while we are not so patiently waiting for our eggs to hatch.

Sounds like a plan, even though the week ends the same day as The Hatch.

But it might be a good tactic for post-Hatch ....uhhh.... "hang-over," or what ever it is when one is wrung out afterwards.

Wait! polls can be artificially skewed! Not so sure about that... Think: American Idol.
