I am hoping my sweet-tempered freeloading cull will take the bait and not one of the 5 layers!

I worry this could encourage egg-eating, but the girls are pretty well behaved and don't even touch the odd broken egg.

Hi! That works here for breeds that are prone-to-be-broody. What is your "sweet-tempered freeloading cull"?

I'm sick and hubby is worse than me.

I usually have 1 golf ball per nest, they normally don't go broody with just one ball. More than one, they go broody.

Today I got the longest, skinniest dark blue egg I've ever seen. ...and it didn't just slip out, it had a little blood on it.

Finished the b-day boy's cupcakes, and am now lining up YEARS of nightmares by letting him watch the new Charlie and Chocolate Factory.
