Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Mine are locked down.. I was able to see into the darker eggs with the awesome flashlight my other half has been hiding. I saw three I think are clear, but I'm leaving them in (though separate) just in case

And I was VERY excited to note that I could see movement not only in the white eggs, but in the colored ones too! I'm getting better at this, I can see babies in there!

I've been trying REALLY hard to not mess with the eggs other than checking the temp in there. But I'm glad I looked.. I saw one leaking, and when I opened up the incubator, the smell was just nasty.

It's out and in the trash.. the OUTside trash.

Seven little serama eggs are in a separate bator for lockdown, because I'm not sure if it's safe to have littler birdies hatching in with the bigger birdies.. my husband reminded me last night that he gets to personally remove them and baby them after they hatch.

Now, I'm leaving and they're on their own. Dad's in for heart surgery at the Cleveland Clinic and now that everything's done here, critters fed and kid's to Memaw's, I'm heading up to join my stepmother and siblings in the waiting room. Routine surgery I guess.. they're repairing a valve. Nonetheless, everybody's a little nervous.

My official guess is 5331 posts. And I'm trying to catch a rooster crowing, but it's not going well.

Mahonri- I am pretty sure I saw one of the dark eggs wiggling this morning, so here's hoping! It was the egg 4 down, 3 over.

Hilarious!! 5-HTP can be found in any drugstore or Wally World pharmacy, etc. It's a supplemental amino acid that increases serotonin and decreases appetite. It has excellent success in helping those with insomnia, and I'm a poster child for that treatment- nothing in the world has helped me as much as 5-HTP. Plus I lost 12 pounds since Halloween and am at my target weight without any effort whatsoever!!

I don't normally endorse things so unabashedly, but this stuff has really changed my world.

Edited because I can't find letters on the keyboard without coffee.

Locked down 2 of my original 14 eggs, seems like my young roosters wasn't getting around liked I had hoped. But they will be cute little Salmon Favorelle/ Olive eggers. Love this thread, so much fun reading. Can't wait for the chicks, mine tend to hatch early, so I am thinking tomorrow or early friday for chicks.

That does look like a neat system.......but where do the chicks have room to 'hang out' after they have hatched? It seems like they would be falling in the holes or trying to scrabble over the other eggs. I assume it's not a problem, or you wouldn't do it that way. But I can't envision it very well. Do you have any pics of a hatch in progress using the egg cartons like that?

I pull them out shortly after they hatch and put them in "the recovery room,"

Kathy - I love the idea of them being in a seperate bator to "fluff up". And you have no idea how encouraging seeing these pics is! Anticipation!

I do the second incubator thing also. I have a hovabator that I hate for incubating and my brinsea gets so crowded, so I fire it up and put the wet checks in the hovabator to dry off. No more spraddle leg since I started this as they aren't trying to jump over broken eggs and aren't smooshed in the brinsea.
