from here, too.

I'll offer a doz eggs as a prize if there is a contest going that *needs* a prize.
I decided to peeonthefireandcallinthedogs for this weeks' hatch. I want to take the hatcher apart and clean it before time for the eggs set the 18th (and duck eggs set the 11th) to go in. The hatcher this week was the incubator I loaned out that came back so nasty --- I scrubbed/bleached best I could, lined the whole bottom with foil, poked vent holes, and called it done). The foil may have dinked up the hatch ???
New week, new eggs to hatch.

Wolftracks, don't give up!

All I have is E.E. eggs, but I will give you some if you want.

I set 62 for a Christmas hatch and a dozen for the New Years' hatch and nothing! I had to order another 25 hatchery chicks just to pacify myself!

I set forty-some for a January 5th hatch and I am down to 10, a couple of which I doubt are still going, but at least they are not clear! The Dark Brown and Green eggs are so hard to see into! I hope I at least get 1 or 2 of them to hatch!

I have not been able to eat an egg since I started incubating! After opening the quitters to make sure my candling was correct, it turns my stomach to even crack an egg!

I just set another 81 eggs for a January 22 hatch. I am DETERMINED not to quit this craziness until I hatch SOMETHING!

I sold some eggs on ebay and 1 of the buyers is on here, she hatched some of my eggs! Now I am going to start saving some of my eggs and trying to hatch them too.

If I had it to do over again I would:

DO a dry run with any new, used or homemade incubator for at least a week!

LOOK for eggs locally! Most people who have fresh eggs have a rooster. Even if you have to offer them double if they are sold out, they will find you some and not refrigerate them.

NOT order any eggs on Ebay! There is every imaginable breed available from BYC members.

NOT have eggs shipped to me in the month of December!

This is just what I have learned from my failure so far! I am several hundred dollars into rotten eggs and parts and bators! I could have bought some REALLY wonderful breeder-quality chicks with that!
