Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

I'm so sorry! That's just too much of a tease

Oh he was just starting to get dry too.

I swear I tried even blowing in his mouth too. He was so cute. I don't have them just die like this.

So much for trying to do something positive right now. I can't believe this.

Mahonri-

I should have helped out that BLRW I mentioned this morning. Poor thing was still alive, but the side exposed by its super-pip was like concrete. It took me 30 minutes to unwrap it. Its gonna be bald on the one side. Sorry.

So I candled the rest of the light-colored eggs. No survivors, except one Aloha chick that I pipped and hit a vein

I wrapped it in a wet paper towel---so maybe it will make it, maybe. I did not try to pip the dark-colored eggs. I have no idea where the air sack is, or even if the egg isnt a ticking time bomb. I'll leave the remaining eggs (all dark) in there until tomorrow night, just in case.

Overall, it has been a crappy chicken day. I lost a Wellie pullet to the cold, had another run out of the yard and down the street, I found a dead cooper's hawk at the end of my run, and the hatch has been disapointing. I am sorry I didn't do better by you.

As per post #1, you said you originally set 46.

That is correct. I originally set 46 and after day 14 candling I had to pull 7 out for infertility, leaving 39 and I got 36 of those to hatch.

This was a lot of fun and gave me a great excuse to tell DH when he asked why I had the incubator out.. "Well, I wouldn't but you see there's this contest and and and".

Even tho I didn't win anything I have 13 fuzzy butts! I don't think I'll do easter's hatch tho - I already have 24 eggs coming for a few weeks from now (what was I thinking?) plus I had a chick order in for march. Argh!
