Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Also, on a completely different note. I had 6 eggs I set in a row in my incubator by themselves that I was sure were dead when I candled on day 10 for 5eggs or 11 for one. I thought I would candle them again today on day 13 and 14 for one and can very happily say THEY MOVED!!!!!!! These are all due on the 21 (8eggs silkie) and the 22(8sizzle eggs). Was so happy and excited I had to share!

During lockdown, I put one of their tiny little hoses through the top vent right down through to the bottom. It worked last time, but I didn't have to add much because it kept humidity real well because of the humidity pump.

It's a real tiny tube so there is still room for 02 exchange in the vent hole.
But like I said, usually the humidity pump takes care of it for me.

BTW... thanks for all of you kind words with Brinsea.

I imagine whether I win or not, I'll still get a small one from them just for little hatches.

Been a little frustrated trying to get things running right . I ran to town and bought a thermometer after setting when I realized the Springfield wasn't going to fit where it was with only 14 eggs in on my only other incubating experience . It was calibrated for humidity and tested dead on . The Acurite's probe went right where I wanted it , but it showed 24 % humidity and the Springfield had held 35 to 38 % for three days ............................ no problem , I'll just add 10 to the reading and call it close enough . Today it drops to LO , I add water . It comes to 20 but drops in a few minutes . This happens three times , and then I finally notice the water has completely filled the two center reservoirs and now on the floor screen ......................... I finally shine a light on the Springfield , which can barely be seen , and it's at 56 % .

I rigged a sling [ with my favorite sewing thread : Spiderwire fishing line

] so I can suspend the Springfield , opened the lid and sopped up as much water possible with a paper towel as quickly as possible , hung the Springfield so its in the rows but can't [ hopefully ] get stuck in the turner , and closed it up . Its reading 45 % compared to the Acurite's 20 to LO ; that will have to do untill some evaporates because my tube will not fit through the mesh floor to remove water . Somehow I managed to force the pill case lids open on the expencive heart meds I carry in the same pocket I was shoving my Maglite in , but [ thank my Maker ] those pills were still in the pocket .

I'm beginning to have some understanding and compassion for people who get nervous about this silly incubating hobby/obsession
