I am about to have a whole bunch of me-time.. We are getting freezing rain and since we NEVER get much winter precipitation of any kind here, folks are having wrecks left and right.. Roads and major stretches of Interstate are being closed. So, while everybody else in town scrambles to get milk and loaf bread, I will get the windex ready. Because, I will need it to remove the nose prints from the bator window!! Is it day 21 yet??????

My name is SuperChemicalGirl and I have an addition (HIiiiiii SuperChemicalGirl)

I downloaded the "countdown" app for my droid phone (no, not that I needed it) but I have it set to all the major egg life milestones according to my book (formation and beating of heart, formation of limbs, turning to large part of egg, hatch). I'm sick.

And I love it.

Good luck with your snow. I used to live in Maryland and everyone would get absolutely insane everytime the weather man threatened snow. They'd forget how to drive and shove each other in the grocery store over the last thing of milk. I can only imagine how Alabama is.

Should I send them a letter that says, "Your welcome"

I guess I got lucky! I got 2 of them just last week. Whew, that was cutting it close!

All your fault ..... all your fault!

I hope you win the contest!

I debated too long. Ugh............. I was deciding between the Octagon 20 or the 36 egg hatcher. I decided to go with the Octagon 20 but now it looks like I will have to wait for my X-mas present.

Kathy, those rocks are gorgeous!

And Rathbone: I'm keeping some, and getting rid of others. I want a few of these and a few of those and some pretty multi-colored eggs to go with my brown ones..

Uncle's getting some of the others, he misses having chickens.. in fact even my aunt, who never cared for them, now admits she misses them! The rest.. guess it depends on how the hatch goes, right? Probably will just find new homes for anybody we don't immediately get attached to.

The 'attached to' part is the bad thing over here... there are two cockerels out back already that I really, really like and am not sure what to do with. I don't want them stomped into the ground when they start to get bigger and take issue with each other, and I don't want them anywhere close to the gene pool if I ever DO start hatching from those girls after they start doing their boy things. The one has had a butt problem since I got him, and I finally figured out (and please tell me how this happens!!) he has feathers growing out of his vent. I did my best to remove them, but he still seems to have that issue. Either he's stupid, or he has terrible aim. The other seems fine, but he's tweedle dum's brother. I don't need any babies with that problem.

One rooster-butt-bathing event every so often will be plenty for me, thanks. I've seriously wondered, do people ever caponize their boys just so they can keep them without trouble.. anybody?

I don't know. I do find it interesting though. I have read up on it, and have even considered giving it a try. Just haven't got around to it yet. I think, some day, I may give it a try.

That is an amazing idea. I keep falling in love with my little roos too. So if caponized...they don't crow and they don't fight? And would caponizing them put them in a lowest pecking order? As in, would they be picked on? Hmmm...
