Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

I just got some off of eBay and haven't used them yet, cause I haven't figured them out.

I think you can use buckets like at HD, but I'm not positive, so hope you can find out for both of us.

re: Microsoft Security Essentials, it is very good. Not perfect, though I had thought it was. it won't save you if you click on the wrong thing while surfing 100% of the time. Something got me night before last and shut down my virus protection and all executables. Had to start in safe mode find the problem, delete it and restart. All ok now. I think I''ve had every antivirus protection out there and MSE is the best and least intrusive, less demanding of resources. My son in law does IT at ASU and he suggested it to me, since that's what they use.

OK, decided to try candeling the FBCM eggs I have in for New Years...........
I put two of my own in.
The eggs are not as dark now and guess what.

re: water nipples. I got the screw in type, trying to get the adults changed over, not easy to get them to switch, but some are trying them. I believe whatever container is thick enough to hold them should be fine. 5 gallon bucket, 55 gallon drum, even PVC pipe that has a big enough diameter to handle them can be connected to your water container.

I have used/still use some nipple waterers, with brooding chicks and in grow out pens. Plus I have a bucket one in the run which the chickens use from time to time. In the brooders, I installed the nipple(s) in the bottom of Tupperware or other hard plastic type pitchers with lids. That way I can add water from the top while the waterers are still hanging.

Here's one I put in a cap to a bottle of drinking water, but I had to remove the whole thing to refill it.

Either my GLW has decided that it's warmer in the nest box or she's mad at me for not incubating any of her eggs and has decided to go broody in Maine December.

Between her and Runty (who decided to molt in November and is still half bald) the decision making skills of these chickens are lacking.
