not so much-my big drake chases her off all the time though-breaks my heart really because she is so sweet-I love love her purring-gentle dingbat she is-I can reach right under her while she's laying her egg and she just talks to me-as if to say "go ahead Mom-I wont kill you " hehe

I so miss those sunsets in AZ. Seems like you couldn't go a week without a really pretty one. Great pics Mahonri!

I have a little teeny hatch going on right now, and Im so surprised at the difference in hatching times for the breeds. My Ameraucanas are all out by day 20; today is the end of day 21, and Im still waiting on pipped marans to get it done. I dont know if Ill mix breeds anymore when I hatch.

Well after candling today I am down to 16 eggs. Finally had the courage to remove the ones that were obviously non-starters. I cracked open all of the ones that I removed and I was relieved to see that all had not started. There are a few others that probably will come out as well but still not sure of my judgement so I left them in for now. On the good side there are a lot that look good!

At least it looks like I won't wind up with one lonely chick.

I came home last night to my hatcher unplugged. It had to have happened before I left yesterday, so it had to be off at least 8 hours. The poor little eggs were so cold. One little pipped guy was dead, and one pipped guy had such a heart wrenching little peeeeeeep. Luckily it was a small hatch, only seven eggs. I just grabbed the tray and ran put in in the incubator floor (with my NY hatch)

This morning, the pipped one is hatched as is the "dead" one!! One more is hatched and two more eggs are pipped. My little miracle babies!

jenjscott lots of good hatching vibes going your way! So glad to hear that it looks like they are surviving the unplugged hatcher!

Pretty sure your Camelback "chicken" is a Rock Wren.

It has an extremely long beak, like one used to go down long flowers... or perhaps cracks in rocks.

There are always folks on Camelback so they have no fear of humans.

Candled today, my results:

Blue/Cuckoo Marans pen: 6+, 3-, 1? (shell too dark to tell)
Black Copper Marans (Shipped Eggs): 2? (shell too dark to tell, but I THINK they're good, the end looks dark)
B/B/S Ameraucanas: 9+, 3-
Silkie Bantam Cochins (Shipped Eggs): 4+, 2-, 2? (2 eggs stuck to turner, unable to candle, working on loosening them up)
White Silkies (Shipped Eggs): 2+, 3-

Total: 21+, 11-, 5?

All in all, for my first go round, I'm pleased with what I have so far!

Anyone have any good tricks for unsticking eggs from the turner? No cracks that I know of, can't see what's sticking them. Currently I'm trying a little incubator temp water, but so far they are still stuck.
