Congrats! So happy they made it!

OK, the water seems to be working. One of the eggs freed up and was sticky at the bottom indicating probably a little crack? Can't see one, but it seems to be egg goo that adhered it. Candling showed a yolk with no development and a detached air cell (first time to see that, but very obvious). I cracked the egg and it was indeed an infertile egg.

So that puts me at 4 good silkied cochin eggs, 3 bad, and 1 undecided. Hopefully the other egg will loosen up with the water treatment.

LOVE the silkie white eggs, can see the embryos, the veins, everything.

The others I'm having to go by dark vs. light because there is no way I can pick out veins in them with the light I have.

Time really flies when you have a thread like this to keep your mind busy.
Lock down for me today ..already know I will be sleep deprived..........always do that.
It is for sure a form of aerobics..............running back and forth to check for chicks.
My Dr. always asks if I am walking.....I always answer "Yes"

Got rain and high winds here

I sure hope the power stays on. I have the to incubators going and lights in 2 brooders.

I was going to put some kind of lighting out this week, but now I'm not to sure. I was kind of worried about running a door onto the porch with kids able to get to them anyway.

My backyard is really these days, but my runs look like lakes and those stupid birds (BCMs) are out in it with the Games and won't go in. They're soaked! It's cold and I'm worried about them.

The games figure it all out and are under cover, but these big dummies are walking around like it's nothing and wouldn't let me get close enough to pick them up and put them away. I didn't know it was going to be this bad or wouldn't have let them out in the yard this morning. It was wet, the wind had been blowing, but the sun messed with me and looked to be coming out. I don't see one wood chip in their run. Just mud!

I wish I wasn't feeling so bad, I'd chase them down, but I feel like caca!

I used to love the rain, but I'm getting to old for this.

I had cabin fever this morning, so I took a nice long drive along the Sacramento river. It's very high now, what with the release from Folsom Dam to be prepared for all this rain, and there is a ton of debris in the river. But it's beautiful in a gloomy way. Loved my drive. Picked up some mistletoe at the Clarksburg boat launch ramp, from fallen branches. Plenty to share with folks at work. Even with berries on the branches! Lots of cranes and egrets to see, too.

So many homes have gorgeous orange trees, and I really liked seeing the number of places with beautiful persimmons hanging on leafless branches of those trees. And the red of pyracanthra berries!

My yard is SOAKED. The chickens look so bedraggled! Everybody got BOSS before I left for my drive, and oatmeal when I got back. I just toss the former into the yard - trying to miss the wettest and muddiest spots - but I hand-feed the oatmeal to as many as will come to eat from my hands. Plus tossing some to the shyer birds.

I'm sitting here now with Smudge, my Himalayan, laying across my shoulders and down my left arm. Nothing like a purring neck warmer when you're at your PC.

Very late last nigh I apparently did not notice Smudge following me into the bathroom (where he used to have his litter box B.C.) and apparently locked him in there. With the wire-covered brooder containing the 3 latest bantam chick hatchlings, and the UN-covered brooder with the 4 call ducklings. Smudge is a talkative cat, but he kept his mouth shut for a long time. When he started meowing with his "I want something" voice, I couldn't find him. Uh oh, IN the bathroom! When I opened the door, he stalked out in high dudgeon. Call ducklings were perfectly calm. Huh.

I'm lucky Smudge even tries to catch the occasional mouse.
