Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Exactly.

I have fallen twice during daylight hours. The first time, my flock only contained 8 chickens. I slipped backwards, ended up flat on my back, glasses all askew. Suddenly, a pullet was standing on my chest, peering intently into the one lens of my glasses still over an eye.

"Brrrk?"

The others quickly crowded around me whilst I got my thoughts together (and my breath back). Hmmm, thought I - good thing I feed them well!

Second time, just went to my knees. The flock was larger, then. First they scattered because they had been all around me asking about their feed and arguing with each other over who would get the very freshest bits as soon as I poured it into the feeder. Then they came back and gathered around to pick at spilled feed.

Noooo, falling into that muck is not nice. Especially with velociraptors milling about. I hope I never break a hip out there!

ah you gave me a good laugh (good visual). Funny about one getting onto your chest and looking into your face. My sons constantly come in covered in what I euphemistically call "muck". Ugh! We go through a lot of clothing changes.

Please be careful!

My chickens have certainly taught me to move slower, mostly to avoid startling them, but I find myself even driving slower and doing other things slower and also thinking through things before doing them! I have found chickens to be unsympathetic to my feelings and problems, my dog is a MUCH better cuddle buddy when I need to decompress and shed a few tears! The chickens will peck at tears sliding down my cheeks!

While preparing for my first eggs I would set, I spent endless hours browsing ebay, ovabid, byc etc for chicken info. I read up on breeds, egg size, temperment, flightiness etc. I ordered the eggs, waited with bated breath and hovered over them for 12 hours until they had "rested" long enough I could put them in the incubator.
What to do, what to do? I had to wait a whole 21 days before they would hatch and what better to do than go back to the internet and browse eggs that I could set in that incubator as soon as every egg in it had hatched. I carefully looked for auctions that would ship eggs to arrive exactly 24 hours before day 24 of incubating ended.
And I stumbled across this thread listed by some guy named Mahonri. Timing really is everything isn't it?
Here we are, some of us waiting more patiently than others. (imagine my nails drumming the desk top in anticipation of the not-so-soon-to-hatch eggs in the incubator.)
I feel as though I have created a monster - myself. My yard has some chickens. I have some here at the office that we hatched out for the students to tend (which I oversee). I have eggs in the incubator. And the truth is - I have reached the end of the egg carton. There is no more room at home for another set of eggs to hatch. I feel like an addict. I find myself still on perma-browse for eggs. I am still perusing the egg auctions although I know full well the neighbors will call me the crazy chicken lady of the Mojave.

Im begging you all for some of that rain!! We are so dry here, at least its not baking, too. And actually, today is a little pleasant, about 70. I would gladly take some of that rain off your hands, please!

How would you like it? Soon I will have a rain gauge running over.....The weather man is promising no rain tomorrow I hope so I want to get some more feed before it starts back up again

70? Send us some of that and you can have this wet stuff.

SIL just went with me to get a bale of hay and I wore black. Wet alphafa and black don't mix. Oh and wore suede boots, how stupid was that? Just grabbed the closest thing since I had someone that could get this for me.

Soaked boots, soaked socks and slimed pants.

I want some heat!
