45 chilly degrees out and time to jump into the shower before heading to work my last day before Christmas break.

Christmas time with its package full of love is the greatest of all anniversaries for those who worship the God of Love. It brings peace of mind to millions who, for one day at least, think more of others than of selves; more of giving than of getting. This is the secret of the popularity of Christmas. It is the best day of the year, the most joyous, because we seek the happiness of others rather than our own. It is the day when love takes command, and men, women, and children, by losing themselves, find joy and peace. For one day at least, Christendom tries Christianity.

Merry Christmas

OK, that's it. For the Easter Hatch, I'm going to join the TJ hatching club... even if it's just one dozen.

I did not even realize there were TJs in AZ. I just had to go look it up.

Looks like I may be going south for a shopping trip ( after the holidays of course)

GOOD GRIEF. I leave for one day, and you all produce, what, 17 pages?!

I rained sooooo hard last night. It woke up the toddler, who then slept fitfully on my head. I can barely turn my hear or lift my shoulder (whinewhinewhine). I am off today and tomorrow, but since the kids had their xmas party at daycare today, I took them to school. Last night we decorated cookies for them to share.

Anywhoo: the rain last night-- I am kinda on the mountain, so all the rain from there drains through my yard. We were totally flooded last night, the backyard and the coop. Lots of blue lightning, but I don't remember a ton of thunder. Weird.

Earlier in the evening, I moved the stupid teenager chooks (who sleep in the open, rather than the coop) under shelter before it started raining. I hope they stayed there, otherwise I am going to find some drowned chickens. I also had Shane pull the brooder out of the coop into the yard so I can disinfect it. Maybe the rain washed it for me?

So, I am going to go outside, survey the damage, and repair the netting over the coop. I also need to scrub the brooder and clean the run: although I suspect raking up all that wet poop is going to be more work than it is worth. Wish me luck!

Brrrrrrrrrr, I'd freeze my tush off there!

As for the egg turning, I'm not positive, but I think it's more critical at the beginning of incubation. I have an egg turner, so I don't have to worry about it.

Egg turning is most critical from days 10 to 18. Less critical before that.... as I understand it.

Good to know, thanks! (knew someone would correct me if I was wrong

Steve H, good reminder.

Well, got about 2 inches of slop and water n the coop this morning, took a shot at a coyote eating the chickens food in the yard, but must have missed. Dang!

Sharing some Christmas Spirit. Thought this was cute, and fitting since everyone worries about power outages with our incubators running.

'Twas the night before Christmas & out on the ranch, The pond was froze over & so was the branch.
The snow was piled up belly-deep to a mule. The kids were all home on vacation from school,
And happier young folks you never did see- Just all sprawled around a-watchin' TV.
Then suddenly, some time around 8 o'clock, There came a surprise that gave them a shock!
The power went off, the TV went dead! When Grandpa came in from out in the shed
With an armload of wood, the house was all dark. "Just what I expected," they heard him remark.
"Them power line wires must be down from the snow. Seems sorter like times on the ranch long ago."
"I'll hunt up some candles," said Mom. "With their light, And the fireplace, I reckon we'll make out all right."
The teen-agers all seemed enveloped in gloom. Then Grandpa came back from a trip to his room,
Uncased his old fiddle & started to play, That old Christmas song about bells on a sleigh.
Mom started to sing, & 1st thing they knew, Both Pop & the kids were all singing it, too.
They sang Christmas carols, they sang "Holy Night," Their eyes all a-shine in the ruddy firelight.
They played some charades Mom recalled from her youth, And Pop read a passage from God's Book of Truth.
They stayed up till midnight-and, would you believe, The youngsters agreed 'twas a fine Christmas Eve.
Grandpa rose early, some time before dawn; And when the kids wakened, the power was on..
"The power company sure got the line repaired quick," Said Grandpa - & no one suspected his trick.
Last night, for the sake of some old-fashioned fun, He had pulled the main switch - the old Son-of-a-Gun!
