It was an absolutely GORGEOUS day here in Northern CA today!

I spent some time out with the chickens and pruned some of my fruit trees.

So out of 40 eggs 12 were clear. They were clear when I checked them last week but I wanted to make sure but I have 28 left. There are 9 White Orps and 19 Buffs left. I hope they all make it to the end.

I candled and tossed 2. 2 are still iffy, but I am not willing to give up on them yet.

Didn't take me as long to catch up as I had imagined.

Glad I'm not the only one to drop eggs. It happens to all of us.

I get to skype with my son in Hungary tomorrow. Can't wait. He's been gone 11 months now. 13 more months and he'll be back home.

On another bright and happy note...

I have someone upset at me on Facebook who said he entered the NYD hatch but has since been banned from BYC.

He is now saying that the contests here are fixed. That we are breaking the law doing "Internet gaming" across state lines. I wonder if he missed his happy pill today.... or this week.

I feel badly for him.

Let's see, none of us wagered any money on our bets, so.... hmmmmm.

Makes my brain hurt. I think I need some chocolate.

Homegrown and Locally Obtained Eggs:
7 of 10 Marans, Blue Cuckoo (2 clear, 1 blood ring, my pullets' first eggs)
10 of 12 Ameraucanas, Black/Blue/Splash (2 clear & discarded)

Lost 5 of 22

Shipped Eggs:
2 of 2 Marans, Black Copper
2 of 5 Silkies, White (3 clear)
2 of 8 Cochins, Silkied Black and Barred (USPS had it in for these, 2 detached air cells, 2 scrambled, 2 non-developers)

Lost 9 of 15


All in all, for my first forray into chicken egg hatching, I'm quite pleased so far and hopeful for a successful hatch.
