Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

I didn't like the wire thingys either. Did you incubate from day one in that egg carton?? I wanted to try it but was afraid the eggs would fall out while the turner tilted to much. I am using the egg carton for the last 3 days, but really wanted to use it for the whole time. So would love to know if you were brave enough to try it on the "tilt a whirl" egg turner days ????

I would if I incubated in there, but I incubate in a Sportsman, and then switch here for the hatcher. I don't think that slight tilt would matter.

That does look like a neat system.......but where do the chicks have room to 'hang out' after they have hatched? It seems like they would be falling in the holes or trying to scrabble over the other eggs. I assume it's not a problem, or you wouldn't do it that way. But I can't envision it very well. Do you have any pics of a hatch in progress using the egg cartons like that?

I use the shelf liner stuff. I don't bother washing it I toss it afterwards. Dollar Tree has it all the time.

So my birds look like girls huh? Both?

That would be cool. Now to get rid of the other roo and figure out which of my pure roos to put over them. I have a black AM I was thinking to use. I hope these start laying for the Easter hatch if they are indeed both girls.

After today I'm really nervous about this NYs hatch. Hope I don't kill something else. Between the eggs and my quail, I'm about ready to give up one minute and buy more the next.

I pull them out shortly after they hatch and put them in "the recovery room,"

Going into lockdown! WOOT!

Of the 70ish I had, there are 37 going into lockdown. Mine are the ones marked with an "A", Mahonri owns the rest

OK just finished the last candle. I am down to 8 eggs out of 23. I have four lavender orp eggs left (out of eight shipped, only one cracked on arrival) and four of my Ameraucanas. None of the EE eggs even started. I am wondering if the Wyandottes butts are just too fluffy

It could just be that it is because they are fairly new layers as well. I was kinda bummed about the EE eggs but goodness knows that I will have more for the Easter hatch! Shhhh don't tell DH I am already planning on joining that one!

I am going to wait until tomorrow to go to lockdown mainly because I am not seeing any "wiggles" yet. I will probably do it in the morning if we can get to work though. Supposed to snow tonight so we will see. Good luck to everyone!
