If you put in hot water, it will cause the window to fog for a bit, then it will clear up. (did that my first hatch, and I added too much water the first time too - it's a heck of a lot easier to add more, not so easy to remove some) I use warm water, not hot.

Yeah.....whose idea was it to hatch chicks in the dead of winter with ice, snow, gale force winds and unending rain/flooding? I guess it just makes it that much more challenging so no one gets bored or complacent with their bator.....yeah, that's it for sure.

Here's to good luck for everyone - may the power stay on and chicks hatch out wonderfully!!! I'm going into lockdown in a few hours. We'll see how I do with my humidity....since I'm a first timer and I have NO IDEA how/what I need to do to get and keep my humidity at the correct levels.

See ya'll on the other side...........

I am going to go and prepare my eggs for lockdown but I wanted to guess my number of posts.

Locked down with 6 ameraucana and one lavendar orpington. The LO did not look too great so i am not holding out too much hope. The silkie eggs were pulled a while ago. It's raining agin, but the forecast doesn't look too bad. We always lose power out here during storms and sometimes during high winds.

ALSO~ If i could just ask that everyone suround my DS with positive thoughts and prayers today. He is supposed to graduate AF bootcamp tomorrow, but called last night to let us know he did not pass his fitness test yesterday due to the fact that he is incredibly sick. He has a chance to do it again today. We are waiting to hear how he did. If he can't do it today he has to do the entire last two weeks of bootcamp all over again.

My request for four hours off on Friday has been approved, so I can leave here at 1230 hrs for my lunch hour, then just not return from it. (I work a nine hour schedule, 0730 - 1730 hrs - makes it ten with the hour lunch I am required to take. Every other Monday I get off, and the Mondays i do work are 8 hour days, really 9 with that lunch break.)

ANYway, the Governator granted all State employees 4 hrs paid "Holiday" time for Christmas Eve, and this time can be banked for use later if one works an alternate schedule. I figured NY Eve was far more important for me to get home early!

Co-workers want to go all together for sushi at lunch time on Friday. Much as I would love to participate, I need to get home to 'bator watch.

Water saturated Maxi-pads to up the humidity as needed.

Seriously.

My boss just now asked me how my babies were doing (no I don't talk about chickens a lot - I'd say only half the hospital staff know) and I mentioned that they were locked down with a maxi-pad. He bit. LOL.

We just added this last contest, "How many posts at the strike of New Years," because a member offered up another prize. If anyone has a prize to offer, we could sure use your suggestion as another contest! That would be great!

I wish I was getting enough eggs .... I would offer up some hatching eggs as a prize, if I had them, but I don't. Wouldn't that be a fun prize .... hatching eggs for the addicts?

I would take a IOU.
