Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

I don't wanna hear about your cold weather!!!! Its been 12 degrees here all month till today. The winter classic is Sunday and its going to be too warm for the ice to stay frozen

lol actually I'm very happy for the warmer weather! We're supposed to get into the 40s the next few days and I'm really looking forward to thawing some stuff out and redoing the coop bedding. Deep litter worked last winter with a dozen birds....not so well with 50ish! Plus the top of the compost heap is frozen and its too hard to chip through to get to the warm stuff underneath to flip it. Hopefully I'll be able to do that too.

Good morning everyone! No pips yet...

I am thinking I might drive to Tucson tomorrow rather than spending all day hovering over the incubator. (I have to trade Tucson Tofu a chicken or two).

I put up a heat lamp under the pop-up last night, and then firmly placed the wet and stoopid chooks underneath it. They seemed to dry out pretty well but when I got up this morning, the GFI had blown and the lights & lamp were off. I am hoping it was on most of the night. It was probably ~34 degrees, with a fairly steady wind. Last winter I hung up shower curtains to block the wind into the coop, but since it was 85 degrees last week, I never got around to it. I guess we know what I will be doing tonight, right

Wow, this thread is crazy busy! I started following at about 2000 posts in and finally got caught up from the beginning. Your incubitis is truly contagious so now I'll have to order an incubator and join the Easter Hatch. My DH will be so excited

Good luck on all your hatches! I'll probably be sitting in since I don't travel in freezing rain if I can help it. Supposed to be close to 50 with thunderstorms today then a quick drop below freezing for New Years Eve. I guess we are getting our Iowa January thaw a bit early.

I've got a funeral tomorrow, so no hovering around the incubator for me from 9AM to 1PM.

Next patient is ready... chau.

My temp shot up to 102,

and a humidity of 58%, I got it down to 100 and with 18 FBCM eggs, I am trying to get it to 65-70%. This sure is not as easy as I had hoped. I need to go digital, and set it and forget it.

Please let a few of the 32 hatch.

Yes, but sadly, my thighs are still bigger than I wish! No, I was just thinking about this movie and that line "I don't want to be a pie, I don't like gravy". Which of course truth be told, I love gravy. But decided to change my look today. At the speed with which we have to read through this thread, I am actually surprised anyone noticed.
