Thanks Linda & Chooks for answering my question. I knew that the peeping of the first one out would encourage the others, but I had no idea the first one actually sought out the next hatching one and hung out by it and actively interacted. I can hardly stand waiting for the rest of them to come out......although I do want at least one to wait until after midnight so it IS a NY's day hatchling! LOL

Steve - my first one did play a little soccer and pushed the eggs around some. I'm sorry to hear you lost a couple to the 'cold corners' from that.

I was concerned about it in advance, but people here said not to worry.....so I tried not to. So far, though, the little one pretty much just pushed them short distances, and mostly towards the center - none have gotten pushed farther out to the edges.
I do think I'm going to try to get creative with some kind of 'egg corral' for the next time, just in case.
OMG - I'm already thinnking of THE NEXT ONE!!! You people did this to me!

My first hatched chick has finally settled down, a little. She's been sleeping on the egg row closest to the front of the incubator. She's got her face practically pressed up against the incubator, staring at us.

It's cute.

Question though...

Aren't chicks supposed to be symmetrical in their fuzz? That turken has a white patch around her left eye, but not her right. I think her name is spot.

That cage only stands waste high to me . My back was bothering me , so I reached in without watching , to get that feeder out . It got me , I jerked in reflex , and that spilled feed is the result .

Now when I see it crouching down in attack mode , I tell it " Knock it off ! " It works , kinda .

I'm getting the bestest B-Day present ever from my mom, a cash birthday loan for a Sportsman. I'm so excited I had to share with all my hatch buddies..............best of all the $$ help a very dear BYC friend in a time of need.

Can't wait next hatch will be in the Sportsman!!!!!
