Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

There are TWO fully hatched chicks in the 'bator: a BR and a TJs chick! They have gotten completely out of their cupped shells and into empty egg carton cups, all by them little selves!

For this hatch my bator was running at 99.5 and everyone hatched on day 20

I've turned it down to 99.3 for this next hatch. Which I have already set after cleaning the bator out, lol.

I had a hard time keeping the humidity up also. All 6 hatched but the last one only lived a few hours. I was pouring water in all day and spritzing the eggs the rest of the time. Very stressfull and time consuming. I am grateful for the 5 I got. I think the humidity pump is the way to go. I also noticed that the membrane was very thick with the ducks and they took forever to hatch.




Also have 1 light brahma out and 4 silkies pipped. I used the egg cartons this time, I noticed 1 pipping from the side and the other pipped from the bottom. I took them out of the carton and layed them out to hatch. I do not think I will do the cartons again.

This is my first hatch and I just figured that I must have messed something up along the way and they were all gone. Now I have two pips out of eight eggs. The first pip is already just a little bigger. I really think my temps were lower than what the bator was reading and that is why they are running 24 hours behind everyone. Is there any way yours could have been lower than you thought? Can you candle them and check for movement? I was planning on doing that tonight but got the pips before I got a chance to do it. We had company over for dinner or I would have candled earlier. Just think, you could be the die hard prize winner!
