Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Wow, Heather.......that is one gorgeous color chick! What breed is it?

Thanks! I'm really not sure, but he's definitely a little looker!! I didn't see which egg it popped out of. But most of the babies were from green eggs. I had some that were supposed to be araucana/ameraucana from eBay (but they were all green, is that right?), and olive eggers from sonew123.

I LOVE the pattern on his face.. it looks like sunglasses! I was looking for interesting colors, and it looks like mission accomplished.

I think mine are all done hatching.. no more peeping from in there. I'll let them go a few days to see, just in case. None of the seramas my husband was so excited over..

I think I'm going to have to find him a couple chicks. Easter present, maybe!
And thanks everybody.. for sponsoring the hatch, running logistics, setting up and maintaining contests, and keeping up interesting stuff to read / look at.

I'm not much of a poster, but I love reading when I have a little down time. I think I missed a lot of posts, there were just too manyto keep up with some days, but always had something fun to look at when I popped in. Especially pictures! I absolutely love seeing everyone's pictures! I'm pretty sure this is the fastest 21 days ever.

For those eggs still cooking.. fingers crossed! To those whose chicks didn't or don't make it..

please try again soon! I'm rooting for your success on round two, and hope to see pictures posted! Just a hint, but... Chinese New Year is Feb 3..

That looks like a second shot at New Year babies to me!

Here's the in between now and easter hatch we were looking for. We'd only have a week to put eggs in, though.

I still have 2 pipped and waiting on 2 more. I candled one & it was still moving. I have 1 zipping length ways.... forever. I may pick at it. I've had 2 others pip & zip since that one started.

Good heavens.. What kind of chemicals are you putting in their water dish, eh, superchemicalgirl??? ....

These were the ones that hatched on Friday so I guess that's about right... but just shocking. The first day I put sugar in their water (less than 1 tsp) for the weak ones, and I feed 22% protein crumbles. These guys are NOT interested in scrambled eggs. Maybe tomorrow they'll change their minds. The girls outside sure were happy to clean it up though.

I"m in wolftracks.
Decided I punished myself enough over my Christmas hatch................
And I really enjoy learning.
Going to clean my incubaters..order a few and hatch some of my own.
Should be interesting as there are 8 roo's out there right now from 6 different breeds.
I find it of intrest that the roo's have thier own harems.................
When I am in the barn,, I will see Belino off with the same 10 hens.......................Always i n the same area.
One of the English Oprs take his girls outside.every day....
Boots hangs mostly in the main coop with the same 6 ladies...............
And the Austrlorp has 4 hens that hang with him.................
Lots of little families.
Bottom of the order is Gershwin.the Blue cooper marans.he has three girls and no apparent
permenent place..................
Aside from entertainment,( thanks for the laughter,) what I have gained from this experience is about a million questoins.
Will check back as I hatch more chicks:fl

Safe or not, I did it.... And it is still in there chirping and pipping. So I didn't kill it. I say go for it.. Just lift the lid no more than necessary.. And do it as quickly as possible!!

It's still in there, pipping away! I tried to be fast, but it was just so darn cute to see it pecking away at the hole! It rocked a bit when I set it down. "Keep your flippin' hands off me, can't you see I'm BUSY here?!"

But shouldn't it have made more progress by now?? Is the shell just too hard for the little one??? Sorry, I sure don't want to go through all this and have this fighter not end up getting out at least.

Well folks it is time for me to get some serious shut eye. The lav orp is still at pip so I am just gonna have to trust it will hatch fine on its own. This has been such a couple of roller coaster days. I think everyone doing this hatch deserves a
