Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Got another. "roo up"

Too many pages to go back and search for them all. I about fell out of my chair laughing when we were imagining the "riot" for the box of eggs that the postman was carrying before the set!

appologies, but what's a Roo up? I missed that conversation and the one about the Riot.

Kelly congratulations. That little one will keep you young, at least that's what I keep telling myself. Our last little darling was born 3 months prior to my 46th birthday.

I'll never be able to retire. That should either help keep me young or have me taking a dirt nap prematurely.

We started posting pictures of ourselves and Mahonri posted a picture of himself when he was high school aged. It is pretty obvious from the clothing he is wearing in the picture that it wasn't a "recent" photo of him. I told him he needed to "Roo Up" and post a recent pic.

If you get a chance to look at the earlier pages close to the 11th of December you will find the imagined riot. Made me think of the peasants (sp?) in a Fankenstien movie rushing the castle.

Wow, still going strong in here! Do we have an official die hard chick yet?

I checked back a few pages, but the last contest update I saw didn't have one listed.

Kelly, congratulations on the upcoming baby, and good luck! When is the baby due? I'm waiting impatiently for one of my sisters to step up and have one so I can borrow a niece or nephew here or there.

Kathy, that was quite possibly the scariest bird I've ever seen! I wonder what their temperament is like. I have this mental image of a big poofy-eyed red-faced rooster with gigantic feet chasing my panicked daughter around the yard.

I'm curious, too, how many babies we had hatch in total. Too bad so many people didn't update!

If it is eating and drinking then it is at least thriving a little bit. Just put some Neosporin on the wound to prevent infectiona nd see what happens. Unless it is a gaping, oozing hole i'm sure it is fine.

I actually did put a thin layer of Neosporin on it this morning, especially right under the vent. I think "gaping, oozing hole" pretty much describes it! It was born like that, I saw it the minute it flipped out of its egg, and I did not expect it to survive the first night after seeing that, but I did not open the bator because I figured the perfect heat and humidity would be good for it (and the other unhatched eggs).

I hope no one feels that I have hijacked this thread. If so let me know, and I will go over to the emergencies section. This is not even a new years chick, my NY eggs did not make it, these are from eggs that arrived 2 days after the 11th set date.

It just kinda seems that this is a natural progression from hatching.

Has it digested the yolk properly? It may just be an infected umbilical. I've seen it in lambs before. Some iodine or Blue cote may help to dry it out enough to close and sometimes the exposed part falls off.
