Mail-order hatcheries with no minimum order requirements?

Their chicks for this spring aren't posted yet...they'll post the prices when they post the new chick availability....at least that's what the site says right now.

I don't know about which hatchery to chose (I'm having the same dilemma), but I just wanted to say that those two breeds come highly recommended for newbies like us, and I'm getting those same ones in the spring!

When I ordered from MPC last May, I paid $25 for the heating pack. Worth every penny. My 4 girls are healthy and happy and arrived in great shape. And they came sexed correctly. I'm in the city - no roosters allowed.

You don't have to mail order. Unless you want a very fancy breed, you can get any amount at some feed stores, Tractor Supply, L&M supply, etc. They usually start getting them around Easter up here. Just call and find out when they get delivery and show up.

Meyer Hatchery in Ohio has a great small order program (minimum 3 birds).
They send chicks with a great long-lasting heating pad, so they will arrive safely.

I had a great experience buying started pullets from Meyer and plan to buy some chicks via the small order program.

MyPetChicken apparently uses Meyer Hatchery, I have read.

Hope this helps!

also, if there are other people in your area, you could go in together, get chicks, meet where/dressed so you don't contaminate existing flocks, and everyone go home with the ones they wanted (hopefully). It would be easier if everyone wanted chicks that were either the same, or that look different as chicks.
