No, not a feather was touched and there was chickens in the coop with it! I thought maybe it was after a mouse or maybe nesting or something. It's a barred owl. maybe just looking for some friends, had some barred rocks at the time

Wish an owl would come here and take care of my rat problem.

The owl is beautiful. I would have freaked out to find it in my coop, though! We had a barred owl visit the giant chicken sculpture in our yard one winter. I can't do photos on my IPad, but if you go to my profile, you can see it on the cover of the "default" album.

Unless things have changed, Johnny's has a store in Winslow where you can get whatever you want. There are popular seeds out front to pick up, or you can have someone go out back and get anything else. It at least used to be a somewhat annoying system. You can't just go to the counter and order the item by name, or say I'd like a small packet of item #2435. You have to fill out paperwork, but it doesn't really take that long.

I am trying to clean out a room today to make a place for the incubator and brooder. I've always used an unfinished future guest room upstairs, but DH is laying the floor now, so I can't go in there. Unfortunately, we are junk-collecting pack rats, so there is a lot of stuff to move, toss, clean and rearrange. I still haven't got a confirmation on eggs in February, but I'll need this room in March for my own eggs anyway. Then I'll only have to wait for these hens to lay...

yes and no. it's a catalog store, sears in my local town used to do this but they are not very common any more. in a catalog store you bring in your order or write it down from the catalog and then they put in the order for you. at the this store, you do the same thing but they do have items set up around the store so you can decide if that's what you want (is that the kind of seed sower I want?? how thick is that poly tunnel material? stuff like that) also if you go in you can find new products that may not have made the catalog, discounted items etc. yes in that respect. the no is that you have to write down your order on the sheet and then they fill it right there. I have found (as a customer) it's easier for me to order off the website as they have more then what;s in the catalog and then put in the comments that you will pick up at the store on what date. when you are at the store you can add to your order if you find something really cool or plants that you didn't realize you needed. if you have them ship your order, occasionally I have gotten (and this is as a customer not working there that yr) some new trial seeds that they were testing. I got some cha cha type squash one yr, it was really good and the next yr they started to carry it due to the good feedback.
if you really like tomatos, use the website, there are so many more listed there.

Hoppy, does Johnnys have a good retail store? We have gotten our seeds from them for a while now although I have ordered a few packets from pinetree. I think we might try going to the store sometime to see how it is. It is easy just to look in the catalog and place and online order. Maybe if I go with a list of item numbers that would make it easy.

a few years ago, we had many owls dropped off at the vet hospital where I was working that were just sitting on the side of the road. they thin and there was nothing for them to eat as the snow was really deep that yr. they'd let people walk right up and pick them up.
TRULY AWESOME. WAS HE LOOKING FOR CHICKEN TENDERS???

when I send eggs, i will list them as 10+ and add extras to make up for any that might get broken in shipment. that way they will hopefully end up with at least what they pay for if not more.
I know this is off topic but am fairly certain someone with more chicken knowledge than me can answer this one! I have searched the threads to no avail... What does the "8+" or any number followed by the plus sign mean when people in the selling eggs forum describe their eggs as 12+, 8+,etc.? Can't be weight - holy eggs, batman! Circumference in centimeters? Help!

Okay this egg talk has got me thinking...

I have a partridge rock who is, by everything I can tell, totally broody right now. She wont get out of the nest box even when I take the golf balls away so... Does anyone within 45 minute of portland have fertile eggs? I was looking at the auctions and there are some tempting breeds on there but, as a first timer, I am nervous about investing too much into this.

PM me or just reply. Id love anything that lays colorful or dark brown eggs or...brown leghorns orrrrr black australorps :D

now i have to go look at the auctions too.....

So, what kind of eggs will you be selling Hoppy? I'm hoping to get some Marans and/or Americaunas from Ashandvine but her girls aren't laying yet. I have a gal who's interested in Silkies.
Thanks,
Melinda
