We are going to Lubec, ME. in the end of feb beginning of march to pick up some hatching eggs. Does anyone need any picked up and brought over to the Augusta area? We want to avoid putting eggs in the mail plus have a look around.  It's something like a 3 hour trip; trying to make it worth while.

I might possibly want something, but it will depend upon how well my first hatch goes. It is a very long drive. Beautiful area though.

I agree with you Bucka, it is a beautiful area. We camp at Cobscook bay every year a few times, which in a way is right in between Eastport and Lubec. If you get a chance to stop for food, Franks dockside restaurant is nice. There is a small sandwich shop and bakery on the main street too, decent stuff, but WICKED expensive ( almost 9 dollars for a tuna sandwich?!) OH god, now I'm on a roll with food....you will go through Machias, and Helen's restaurant is there- good home cooked food with the BEST pies in the world!

LOL Hoppy you know we will take all the sizzle eggs we can get our hands on. We loves our Pete and really want some more like her! The kids want a whole flock of "muppet chickens"

Most poultry can handle cold weather very well as long as they are sheltered from wind and kept dry. To keep hens laying, however, requires light supplementation. In this 60-minute webinar we will be discussing what is involved in keeping poultry productive through the cold weather of winter. The lead instructor is Dr. Jacquie Jacob, an Extension Poultry Specialist for the University of Kentucky.

I agree with you Bucka, it is a beautiful area. We camped at Cobscook Bay last summer, Mainechick. We had not been there in many, many years, but I got inspired to go back after seeing the sunrise photo on your blog! We spent two nights, bringing breakfast and lunch stuff, but going out for dinner.

The first night we went to Frank's Dockside, which we enjoyed. The second night we ate at the place next door to Frank's, but I can't remember the name. It is on the left of Frank's, if you are looking down towards the water from the street above. We liked that place even more. Our one full day there, we hiked the gorgeous coastal trails on Campobello, visited Monica's chocolates, and walked the short boardwalk trail right in Lubec. It starts behind the high school and is quite close to where luvmygoats lives (we drove bytes time, but DH picked up chickens for me once there).

We had planned to hike the Bold Coast Trail on the way home, which is a really nice hike, but it is so similar to the Campobello trails that we were ready to head home.

This summer, we want to go back, but we will bring an air mattress! So much for roughing it.

I'm glad the photo was inspiring! If you head back, I can suggest some hikes- I think we have done just about everyone in a 30-60 mile radius of the park! We hiked the Cutler bold coast trail and slept out there one night- that was rugged!

Mainechick, did you get to camp up on that cliff? We hiked by a camping spot that clearly had a tremendous view. We only got to see the back side of the sight, which was a steep cliff, and looked like huge flat rocks on top. Someone was already camping there, or we would've hiked up just to see the view!

The day we did the Bold Coast trail, we did the whole loop (maybe 10 miles?). Unfortunately, we started on the coastal side. Tremendous views. When we got to the halfway point and turned into the woods, we were already getting tired. The inland trail did not have the wonderful views, and in fact, the trail disappeared under water into a swamp. There was no indication beyond the swamp of a continuing trail. We made our way, stepping on soggy mounds and sticks, eventually finding the trail on the other side. By the time we hiked out, we were toast!

Well built pen with chickens in mind, but could easily work for other small animals. The whole unit is 6 feet tall, 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep. 2x3 framing with 3/8 plywood sheething glued and screwed on. The fronts are galvanized 1"x1" wire on full 1"x3" framing for the doors. This pen is lightweight yet very sturdy and safe!
Unit consists of 2 separate pens each being 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep with a height of 2 feet. The 2 foot legs make servicing your pen less of a back breaker and chickens on the floor could still use the floor space under the pen. Doors are hinged and half of the front opens up for easy access. The self closing latches are a huge time saver and easy to operate. A thoughtful "shavings board" was added to keep bedding from spilling out and binding up the doors. The board just lifts out for easy clean out. A well thought out pen that would be great for breeding trios of chickens, a rooster condo, or grow out pen. I have 2 of these units available, they are both new construction and have never had birds or any animals in them. They are ready for your paint or stain. Question for all the gardeners. Has anyone used the small greenhouses to help the seedlings grow? I'm talking about the ones that have two or three shelves and are about 5 ft. tall and 1.f feet deep. TSC has them on sale for $20 starting tomorrow. Since my Fedco order shipped today

I thought the greenhouse might be helpful.

Has anyone else had issues with cast iron frying pans? In the past eight years I have had three break or crack on me. One I understand. The dog dragged it off the stove onto the tiled floor and the handle snapped off. Another one the handle cracked. The third a cracked developed just to the right of the handle and because it leaked I had a nice little grease fire on the stove. The one time I contacted customer service to inquire about the warranty I received a very rude email back stating that the pans are not indestructible.

On another note I just got off the phone with the state regarding my unemployment. Very pleasant person. This was the interview to see if they will actually pay me unemployment. I have yet to collect benefits since I found the whole system a bit on the confusing side and I'm a Mensa member. I have no idea how people do it. And having a part-time job made it even more confusing on how to report what I make every week. So I'm wondering if they deny my claim and I had been collecting for the past month if they would have asked for the money back.

I emailed the person who had the chickens in his backyard in Portland. He had someone come Sunday night and catch them. So they are safe.
