I have an offer for anyone looking for chicks off heat. I have approx 15 pullets that I will sell for $35 BUT whoever takes them would have to take the 2 or 3 suspected cockerals along with them.
Breeds are 2 or 3 or each of the following
Easter eggers, welsummer, barred rocks, Rhode island reds, Austra whites, and Columbian wyandottes.

Arghh. If you were making the offer at the end of next week I would be interested. Roos are no issues since I would like to have one or two.

I need to get my three new pens up and running before I add chickens.One for the ducks, the ones I got from you last year, and two geese. Another for the turkeys and the third for the chickens. Right now the ducks, geese and chickens are sharing one pen. As large as it is it is, being part dog kennel and part recycled portable garage parts, it is not human friendly being only 4 ft high. The turkeys are still in the brooder with the young Saxonies.

My three hens are on strike right now and nobody is laying. Plus they are going on two and egg production has been slowing down. I need some youngsters to grow to take their place.

The Maine thread has been busy! I just tried to catch up and I'm sorry to hear of the losses (dog and chicken) and love the looks of the new coop (Cyndie? Can't remember).

I made a whirlwind trip to Alaska because my brother-in-law died suddenly. He was a well-known musician there and my sister and her friends have such a crazy life-style. The private "ceremony" was at a friend's house. 200 people showed up for great food, music, a moment of silence, songs, and a parting toast, with the ocean, huge snowy mountains, and glacier as a backdrop. The next day we had a traditional second line parade down Main Street, with brass band, dancers in black with black parasols, and the rest of us marching waving white handkerchiefs. It was all very sad and wonderful at the same time. I was glad to see my sister has so much support.

I am totally wiped, but I must get out and scrub the chicken waterers and do some chores. DH took over for me, but he doesn't normally do this job. He said if I die, he'll reduce the flock to 5 chickens and call it good . It was in the 50's out there. This heat is too much. I'm kind of scared to see the garden weeds!

Sorry to hear about your brother-in -law. Not the ideal way to get to take a trip to Alaska. It sounds like the "ceremony" honored him in a nice way celebrating his life and what he gave to the world not what the world took away.

Good luck with the weeds. Mine have taken over here and are now plotting to take over the world.

I am wayyy behind on this thread but read a bit, so sorry for everyones losses of all kinds XOXO I have lost one hen... just up and vanished. No feathers, blood... nothing She was a fave too. On a different note I had a question. I have four older hens now and just added in 7 new kiddos that are about 4 months old. I had a double yolker that got broke in the fridge and noticed both yolks look to definitely be fertilized!! Could a 4 month old rooster be properly doing his job already!? He has been mounting for a while and they have started being submissive and squatting right down for him but I was under the impression it took 6-8 months for roosters to actually do their job...?? Thanks in advance for your knowledge!

I am considering getting some pullets from 3 D's birds and Bees. Has anyone ever gotten birds from them or heard anything positive or negative about them? And Mad Scientist where are you located? I am about half hour north of Bangor. If we do not go with Birds and Bees I may be interested in your birdies.

Oh, one other question Mad Scientist. What breed do you suspect the cockerels are? I've had bad luck with RIR and Welsummer roosters. LOL.. I would still take them any way but they may end up dinner. Not sure if that is an issue for you are not.

Does anyone happen to have any EEs they are looking to sell? I am in Fryeburg and willing to drive an hour (but not further). Age isn't super important.

These chicks aren't going anywhere yet, rather offload here than craigslist. I am in Windham. They are just going through so much feed daily and making a mess. I am going to be putting them in a big coop soon cuz they keep escaping their brooder and we have to run through the yard after them...dh wanted me to keep them all but we don't need 30 layers on top of my existing flock.
