Y'all can join us for Mahonri's Annual New Years Day Hatch. I did it this year and had no problems sticking the 6 week olds in the coop in February. And my birds sold lightening fast at the first swap.

I will absolutely be hatching early in 2012.

For sure....but one of my problems is that I'm the "Bantam Cochin" lady and I'm starting in Bearded Booted d'Uccles (also bantams)

All the recent swap shoppers kept asking. "Do they get BIGGER?"

So hence the Standard Egg Layer Idea.....

I do have Hampshire Red and Rhode Island Red chicks growing for next year which came here as hatchery brds in May.

Not a bad idea to have a "cash crop" to support my hobby birds?

might be a good way to pick up some extra money next spring but how much can you get out of 4 to 6 month old chickens just wondering if you can make enuff to cover the feed im trying my first hatch now from a batch of farm yard mutts just to try it out this batch if i get any chicks will be given out to the grand kids ive got them helping out here building some chicken tractors there parents know that this hatch and the tractors are for the kids and they think its a better idea for the kids than rabbits are cause they can also get some eggs to eat from the chicken when they get older so that they can learn where food comes from we are hopeing to give 3 chicks to each of the tractors ive got 16 eggs that are showing movement when i candled them last night so i might need to hatch out one more batch of them cause the parents said no roosters for 2 of the kids the other one said that a rooster would be fine so im thinking that a 4x8 tractor should be big enuff for at least 3 chickens

PM you back.

That *was* my pumpkin patch.

No matter though, all the other gardens looked similar.

I was so happy too... you know after the (what seems like) months of rain and cold we've gotten today was actually nice and sunny. Before the hail/rain storm.
