I too am in the Bangor area (Argyle) and would like to do a "swap" but I know nothing about them. Are they swaps, or are they sales? Do you get a host location to do anything but advertize them? Is there a need for permits of any kind?

Maybe the Bangor area people can meet some Saturday (or something) for a coffee (without birds in tow) and we can figure something out.

Just had to pop in and say how great the swap in scarb was today! Got a cute pair of (temporarily) small cochins that I LOVE already and got to meet and chat with Hoppy and her son (both of whom are fantastic!). Cant wait til Augusta where I will (hopefully) get to bring my last chicken or 2 home to round out the little back yard flock! What a great event! Kudos to those of you organizing it, you did great! Driving home with my pair of cochins on my lap, I may have hinted to my husband that I would like to have some chickens to bring to the swaps next year!

*sigh* such a great day! Especially for a newbie like me!

Ps-
Hoppy, what was the name of that book you were telling me about again? The one on coloring and genetics?

At first that's what I thought too, we have 2 Ameraucana but I think they are too young still, they are about 12 weeks olds. I have 2 speckled sussex too that are 14 weeks old. I'm wondering if it's possible that my RR or Auracana could be the culprit.

if it's the auracana, you might consider that with the brown egg layers, the eggs get lighter as they go through the lay cycle, I found this true of my ameraucanas as well. if it is her, I would not keep chicks from her as they will pass on the poor egg coloring.

I don't plan on hatching any of the "older girls" eggs. I may try an early spring hatch with the girls that just started laying. I got 4 eggs today out of 14 hens, I know that my older girls are producing little ( I get at least 1 sometimes 2eggs a day out of the 4) and I know I have 2 comets laying now and 4 of the girls (2 speckled sussex and 2 americauna) are still too young being they are no older than 12 weeks old. The girls I've had since a few days old are finally starting to come along. What a long voyage thus far. LOL

Anyone interested in a Lav Ameraucana Roo or two? 14 weeks old this Friday. Harry Shaffer lines...
So. Thomaston - PM me if interested. I cannot keep any roos and would really like to re-home rather than the alternative...
