I came home from Windsor today with a pair of Barred Rocks, wanted a couple of hens, but what the hey, I will hatch some out in the spring.
My broody Muscovy hen hatched out an egg this AM, so there is a new little fuzzy in the barn today. I love ducklings they are so darned cute.

we are finally home, what a wet soggy day. I think over all it went very well dispite the rain. at least the ducks were happy.
big news:: my son's silkie was best in show for the jr show!!!

Awesome for your son! Great job!

In other news, I think my chickens love this weather more than my ducks. They love stomping around in mud. Most of them don't mind being soaked. The ducks? Well they're still worried that I'm a gigantic predator that's going to eat them instead of them enjoying the rain.

Now I know it is said that pets are great for your health. They are supposed to calm you and lower your blood pressure. So can someone tell me why my critters insist on trying to kill me often on a daily basis?
Today I got home about two hours later than normal due to OTJ training for my part-time winter job. First thing I noticed when I pulled into the driveway was that the three horses were in the round pen and the gate was closed. Normally the gate is open so the horses can go in and out at will to the larger paddock. Their run-in shelter is attached to the round pen. Next thing I see is half of the paddock fencing is down including at least one fence post that is ripped out of the ground.
My first thought was, well not printable here, and my second thought was I hope that they did not injure anyone when they were loose. Third thought was who rounded them up. And the horses were just standing there looking at me with the most innocent looks on their faces as if they had nothing to do with the chaos.
As it turns out my neighbor, who also has horses, saw them loose in the yard and stopped to corral them. Thank goodness it was her since she knows I have a wild Mustang who is is not halter trained. This neighbor and a couple others she recruited got all three horses into the round pen and secured. All safe and sound.

My neighbor left a note and her number. Now I normally don't call people (its and Asperger's thing) but I had the phone in my hand before I even put my keys down to thank her.
Now I have to put the fence back together. Probably this weekend once it stops raining. The whole paddock is a mud pit with fencing and posts strewn everywhere. I'm glad the horses were occupied with all the tall grass in my yard and didn't wander down the road to get into more trouble.

Well, that makes my arrival home seem a little less stressful! I immediately checked the coop for eggs, and found that the "chicks" (they are now 20 weeks) had once again managed to rip down the screening that separates them from the older flock. Only one of the birds had made an escape, but she is not accustomed to being handled, so it made for quite a bit of chasing and coaxing to catch her and put her back with her flock. This has happened enough times that I think she may be fairly well integrated with the other flock already. I had to repair the screen though, because our new rooster is in with the younger hens, and I don't want him battling with the older rooster (who is bound for the freezer along with 7 roos in the bachelor pen). I only have to deal with this divided coop for another couple of weeks!

I'm just sneaking in to say hi!!

We live in Jay and are in the process of picking out our coop design, building it and then we'll get chicks in the spring.

Howdy from Monmouth, and welcome, a great group of peeps here! I am fairly new myself and have found great advice and just plain fun. One refreshing thing I have noticed here is absence of personal drama! Perhaps it is because we all have enough drama going on in our own yards, LOL

I have Cochins, Orpingtons, Golden Comets, Barred Rocks, and a couple of Bantams, also Muscovy and Khaki Campbell Ducks, a pot belly pig named Porky Chop, a paint horse named Grace, and a 91 YO Mom who has dementia.

Thanks for the welcome! We just got back from Fryeburg and I loved looking at all the beautiful chickens! Did anyone from here have birds there?
