I would also make a nice call to the town office letting them know much you appreciated the professional and courteous manner the ACO and other person handled the embarassing situation. Feedback makes them your allies in a memorable way that most people won't go out of their way to do but which establishes you as an involved citizen they can communicate with.
Agree with this. Also remember that it's good that people are concerned - not good that they're overly concerned, but I'm glad people are taking responsibility for things they (may or may not) see.
