Making a chick nipple waterer

I got the Premier 1 chick waterers too. I didn't teach anyone anything; the little hooligans we're already all over it as soon as the first couple landed in the brooder. They peck it so hard they might be ready for horizontal nipples sooner than I had planned. The Brahmas and Jersey Giants are gently tapping it; the OEGB's are beating the crap out of it lol. And when one drinks, a bunch more come join in like it's a pickup basketball game.

I think I'm going to build a a small one out of a glad twist lid container using one nipple for them to get the idea. Then a larger one out of a half gallon bucket with 2.

I use a pitcher for my brooder waterer. I use a piece of painter's tape to mark the water level, so I know they are using it. The water level doesn't go down real quick.

So this is what I am working on. I want it this way because I am making a water tower so I can help manage the temperature of the water. I’m in Michigan so it gets cold. Plus this is all so easy and customizable and let’s face it a water tower will look cool! So all there water will stay fresh and gravity fed by the time they get to it.

Here is the temp version in the brooder.

Unless you heat and circulate, that system will freeze up.

What about the vertical nipples, won't they still freeze?

Never had mine freeze have tank heaters that I can but have kept them clear just checking for ice breaking it

@Jbum, How are you gonna keep all that from freezing in the winter?

I am going to use a heater pump. Runs on 12 volt so I can power it with solar. Plus I will be able to disconnect the line going to the run and only have it inside. The water tower will also be insulated as well.

They hit that so much I don’t think it will have time to freeze lol. Plus heating the water.
