making cloth reusable menstrual pads

this is the quote I meant to respond to with my nursing home twin sheet story, sorry I did it wrong.

I'm really lovin those tortoise print pads. Those are adorable. Looks like very nice stitching, too. Whats in there to prevent leak-thru's?

that new material they sell for making the rubber part of diapers is what I put on the last layer inside the largest ones, the others don't have it, I have not had any problems, just use the proper pad for the different days.

this is the statement for the Zorb* batting used in the 2 larger sizes.
*DiaperMaker Zorb™ is a specialty textile designed to reduce cost and improve performance of reusable cloth diapers and accessory products. ZORB absorbs 10x it's weight in less than half a second -- that's 20x faster than cotton, bamboo or hemp. Zorb has incredible holding power too, a single layer holds up to 3 times the moisture of the best absorbing knits so leaking and exterior wicking can be reduced or eliminated

Like Adoptedbyachicken said, over at SS we have several threads on this and the diva cup. I have been using cloth for several years. Regular pads irritated me. Tampons don't work well for me. the alternative was cloth. Cloth pads do not smell like sposies do, your period will be shorter--the very first flow you have using cloth, and believe it or not, you will suffer alot less from cramps etc when using cloth. something about the chemicals and bleach they use in the storebought ones messing around with your body chemistry. It is amazing how quickly anything gets absorbed through your skin, including nasty chemicals on your privates. cloth pads are much more comfortable to wear than sposies too. to me, it's a no-brainer. Less impact on the environment, les money wasted on garbage, better for your health, more comfortable.

How much are you selling them for?

I too cant believe I read the whole thread. I looked at the subject line for days thinking REALLY? Ewww....but now I almost feel convicted. I try very hard to be green. And disposables were barely in existence when I was a kid. So really what did we all think gals used before that? I have "plumbing problems" I sew. Im green. Im warming up to the idea. Im going to look those over again. And as weird as I though this was at first...Ill thank you for the thread. Hmmmm.....(also...what is a diva cup?)

Really it is not Ewww at all. Menstruating is a natural thing women go through. Using a cloth pad is no worse than using a disposable one. Infact, as I said before, there are more benefits to using cloth than there are to using disposables. So you have to wash them. big deal. Just keep a container with a lid in your bathroom, rinse them out and when your cycle is done, wash 'em up.

miss_thenorth I have to say this is all very fascinating to me. I wonder why I (or any of the gals I know) have NEVER heard of this diva cup and didnt have a clue someone uses cloth pads. And Im pretty well versed too so this is weird. You learn something new every day.
