The lighter chick looks like it maybe a Red X White crossing. So you may have a white bird with red leakage as it feathers out.

We'll see if it makes it - momma doesn't seem real aware of the babies. But at least its not another mostly black bird.

Yes. Already lost her first hatchling. Lost a second that died while exiting the shell. The two pictured are the only ones which have made it, and the rest of the eggs appear abandoned. I need to use the cell phone flashlight when she's off the nest to see if there is any movement in any of them.

I would like to suggest not getting rid of the darker Red/Mahogany birds. They'll still produce the rusty red color.

My boy Goliath gave me my rusty red cockerel.
