Making Lemonade [Selective Culling Project - very long term]

We've had good luck in the past baking in earthenware with root veggies, mushrooms, and then finishing with a sour cream sauce - and yes, I think it was a shallow braise, but I'd have to look the recipe up again.
My Grandfather used to cook rabbit in a similar way with a brown onion gravy. It was wonderful! His mother, my Great Grandmother raised rabbits for food. I have no idea the breed maybe wild? I remember she had a long row of pens for them. Granddaddy also cooked squirrel the same way. You never knew what he was cooking. lol
Lovely memories. I miss them both. They could do anything!

In this county we don't have full-time Animal Control. Just 8-5 weekdays.
I doubt anywhere in NC does??

I'm really angry that someone just turned this dog loose to run.
Be aware they will sometimes put them out if they won't hunt or breed. It's happened here.

We are raising rabbits here on the property as well. I'm already following @3KillerBs 's advice about saving the ones I want to eat and eating the ones I don't. and like my chickens, I'm breeding mutts suited for our needs.

Started with three rabbits (sire, dame, dame) from a local breeder of mixed meat breeds, but she's more focused on selling kits than improving the stock. One of my dames got out for weeks, likely bred with a wild rabbit, because the colors, pattern, fur are all wrong for her and our sire - so I kept the best male in today's culling efforts. The sire we bought is in now with the other dame to stagger litters. I'll pick the best of that litter, then start determining which of the adults will become stew.

all that said, cooking with family is among the best of memories

Not my advice, advice I learned from someone else here and passed on. :)
Well, its damned good advice, regardless of who might have said it originally.
Same. I keep that in mind with the color breeding kinda. Keep the ones you want to look at and wear the ones you don't

The dog tried to kill itself by eating the cord from the brooder plate/coop heater I put into the doghouse to try to keep it from being injured by the forecast 20F weather. *sigh*

It's also destroyed multiple plastic containers that we'd put food and water into and nearly completely destroyed the large hambone I'd given it in hope that it would chew the bone instead of the dishes.

DH is calling Animal Control as soon as it's open.
