Making Lemonade [Selective Culling Project - very long term]

Pics
and back to the original subject, couple pictures of !Nom Decimus, of P1-03 hanging from the scale yesterday. He's upside down in these, so of course the feathers are fluffed, making him look larger than he was. His Gonads were quite small, still immature when I butchered, which in combination with his Brahma background, had me quite surprised he was attempting to mount the ladies at just 17 weeks.

Gone. Soon to be dinner. Not forgotten.

and to check in real quick on P1-04, whose weights i **MUST** get today.

Just 4.5 weeks old (31 days), and they are already fully integrated with the adult flock.

Splotch (weight between 11 and 12 ounces - scale problems, mentioned earlier)

Spot (Weight about 12 ounces), Stripe (weight just over 12 ounces), and Sprawl (weight about 10.5 oz)

No, I am not playing favorites - Splotch likes to wander off on his/her own

So, birds we are keeping...

"Pretty Boy" (officially "Sneezy") no photo, I've shown him off enough already. P1-02 Age 25 weeks, again weighs in at 93.4 oz (about 5 7/8#)

"Sleepy", also P1-02, black with green sheen is headed for the pot - but weighs in at 72 ounces (4.5#)

P1-03, "!Nom Octavius" (Bird #3 from the community vote) is 4 lbs, 12 oz at 17 weeks. Being kept for potential pattern. [Pictured front]

and for color, we are keeping P1-03, !Nom Secundus, though the bird weighs just 58.6 oz (about 3 5/8th pounds)

and just to bring a smile this AM, and the hint of progress, here is P2-01 Butterfinger, aka "(Left) Twix".

Honey Buns, the other vaguely "chipmunk" bird at birth, is showing no hints of red but plenty of pattern on the wings. I'll try and get a good picture later. Lemon Meringue, who had no discernable "chipmunk" at birth is also showing lots of markings at the wings. Suddenly, its hard to tell them apart. HB has a smear of markings across the back of the neck.

Oreo aka "Tux" appears to be sticking to the black and white color scheme so far. My only Brahma mama of this batch, so no luck at a potentially Brahma patterned bird with at least one copy of the gold gene here.

Ho Ho, Devil Dog, and Ding Dong are all leaking red at the edges of their black. Based on legs, Ho Ho (who has the lightest forehead ridge and least coloration to the beak) appears to be a pullet, while both DD have chonky legs suggesting cockerels. We'll see if that proves true with time. All have dark shanks, HH's arguably the lightest.

Twinkie has no color pattern at all - looks like its going to remain a "clean" bird. As you might recall, she??? had the distinct yellow "cap" at birth, her whole head really, with the much more white-ish butt. Color has mellowed, yellow much less distinct.

Will try to get more pictures later.

and has anyone had success working "backwards" from these charts to try and make an intelligent guess at the genetics of their bird??

or should I just keep making chicks and taking photos till I get a sense of what the adult will look like based on a glance at the chicks, without all the alphabet soup in the middle??

This chick is what I call my odd chick, she feathered out Red Crele with Salmon Breast feathers.
