Making Lemonade [Selective Culling Project - very long term]

My wife has convinced herself she does have the 'Rona, but she's 90% - apart from some cotton in her thinking processes, her symptoms are no different than seasonal allergies (which come with some wool headedness themselves). Congestion, low energy, nasal "stuff" - everything but the itchy eyes. and she takes an allergy treatment daily, which also argues against it being mere allergies. But she tested negative, so...

I'm fine. Or as fine as I ever am, which is probably better than I have any right to be given my age and lifestyle. But I'm used to it, so no complaints, just observations.

There was something my entire family had that has *most* of the 'rona symptoms but doesn't test positive for it.

I figure I've either had it 3 times without ever testing positive or I'm naturally immune because I've been well-exposed to full-blown symptomatic cases at least 3-4 time.

Glad you and your wife are feeling better, @U_Stormcrow.

Sending positive waves that the hurricane misses you. :fl

Michigan may have its share of crappy weather, but we don't get hurricanes. Ok, we get straight line winds on occasion, but nothing like an actual hurricane.
I'm finishing the grill supports on the (fourth time) re-stacked firepit, because hey, that's hurricane prep right??? Then I have to crawl under the RV and start making some under flooring repairs.

Goat (corned 12 days) in the crockpot now, rye bread in the box, swiss in the 'fridge, good mustard, and 'kraut in a jar. I'm eating well tonight, if nothing else.

First predator loss of the season. Some kind of hawk with a check pattern to it in black and white, no bigger than the bird it killed. Flew off before I got the camera turned on.sadly, one of the newer birds.

Probably a red shouldered hawk - we have a family and routinely hear the call, I just didn't see any red. But I think its too early (and this year too hot) for it to be one of the migratory birds.

Sorry for your loss
West of me 300 broadwing hawk were seen. They are not usually seen unless migrating.

It happens. Aerial predation is part of the plan - an undesired part, but definitely something I planned for.
Yes I have 2 chicks that have disappeared this year. All part of free range

I accept that I'll have some losses to hawks from time to time.

But why couldn't the hawk have taken the crossbeak instead of one of only 2 OE pullets? Or any of the OE boys!
