Making your own dog food.

My dogs get raw to. They eat whole pray so i don't make there feed, but i do breed it.
Since they eat raw they are more content, have cleaner teeth (they where so bad they would have to be cleaned), they poop only half they did, overall they are in better shape.
I am very happy to have done this.
However i do make them treats, I dry meat and bake cookies.

I have decently just started making dog food for my grandmas dogs. She has an older Rat Terrior who is extremely overweight and we just have not been able to find him any kibbles that have been able to take the weight off him, even foods specifically designed to be a diet food.

Since I have started cooking for him he is looking so much better!

We do brown rice and either boneless skinless chicken breast, liver, or low fat ground turkey as a base with various veggies. Usually some combintion of carrots, sweet potatoes, peas, beats and spinich. Her dogs love it but they do sometimes try to pick around the veggies if they are a not cut up small enough. I have been looking into possibly trying rabbit as it is typically a lean meat, but there isn't all really good sources for it locally that I can find and I do not have the heart to buy and kill one myself.

I usually make between 2-3 weeks worth at a time and divide it up into daily rations into freezer bags. We freeze it all and take a bag out each day and pop it into the microwave until its thawed and slightly warm.

The vet loves the diet and thinks it will help him out alot. He has only been on it a few weeks and is already got more energy and less joint pain.
