Hi guys...I need some advice. I am ditching my LG's...the new Brinsea Oct 20 Advanced is plugged in and running, waiting for the 19 little eggs I have to fill it. My question is, what is the ideal incubation then hatching humidity? It has been crazy trying to get it correct on the LGs so I'm starting over. This one will help me get it right and maintain it better. I've read several different things so I'm looking for what humidity levels you've used for good hatches. I have till tonight since it is still stabilizing.

The ones I hatched from mbrobbins I set them with all my other eggs. The incubator runs around 25-30% humidity and the hatcher is anywhere from 50-70% depending on when you look at it. Usually it's closer to the 50% mark since it's so dry here right now. Just remember, if your humidity is too high you might have problems with the chicks being too big, thus unable to turn properly inside the egg. Likewise, if your humidity is too low, you might have very small chicks unable to survive after hatching or the eggs could just dry out.

'Normal' incubation is 40-50% during incubation and 55%+ for the hatch, but this should be adjusted on an individual basis...you just have to find out what works for you. For me, dry incubation works best: humidity 25-35% during incubation and 50%+ for hatch.

Thank you. I've heard a lot about dry incubation and how much success people have with it. We are probably normal humidity level here in the PNW, normally. This week it's been running about 80% outside and closer to 70% in the house. The factory settings are 45-50%, saying to up it to 60-65% during hatch. Right now it's at 45% with one of the channels filled like they recommended to warm it up. I should add the humidity levels you mentioned are what my LGs have been running at it for incubation and hatching, but it's really hard to control it with them.

This was my second attempt hatching eggs. I only have two hens laying so some of the eggs were a bit old but I threw them in any way. I didn't think I would have much luck because the temp fluctuates a lot in this old house. There were three out of four fertile Serama eggs to hatch on my first attempt...one just stopped developing.
They started hatching last weekend and 14 of them hatched....I was shocked because I was just expecting maybe a couple to hatch...lolol...Even though I was checking them, I lost one to pasty butt.

I had been so caught up with the new chicks I hadn't unplugged the incubator so I did that Tuesday night. Wed night after cleaning and feeding them, one chick was chirping loud. I kept trying to find it but they all looked ok.
It was driving Dottie my mother hen Dachshund crazy and she was driving me crazy....lolol...She kept going to the incubator which was sitting by the brooder and whining. I finally checked the brooder and there was a little chick running around screaming bloody murder...lolol..so I'm back up to 14 chicks. I really feel bad because there was also another one that had piped but it didn't make it out of the shell. I'll know next time not to unplug it without checking the eggs first.

The humidity was between 40/50% and once it dropped down to 38%. Hatching was at 60/65%. I'm not sure what it was when the last one hatched...I was too busy getting the chick out to notice...lolol

Good luck on your hatch!!

That's so funny. I had a similar experience with my first hatch. I had a great hatch 83%. Figured that the last 3 eggs were just done. So, went to clean the incubtor and remove the leftover eggs and when I picked up the second egg, it screamed at me! Definitely caught me by surprise...this little tiny Serama egg was peeping so loudly, I can only imagine what that poor little chick was thinking "

wait I'm not done yet!"

That little bugger did hatch and is doing great!

I did tap on the shell and listen for a peep before unplugging it. Next time I'll candle them before I yank the plug. I guess it stayed warm enough in the incubator because it's running around with the others. I really didn't need 14 more babies!!

I must be loosing my mind because I have eggs from my silkied roo Bo and his hen Layla, that I'm about to put in the incubator.....that's why I was unplugging, it so I could clean it!! I'm sooo afraid I'm addicted to hatching now.

Juliette

I have a feeling that would be one hell of a long line.

I think some of these are Bo's babies. I had a dividers but the little stinkers climbed on the eggs and jumped over. There are several that are black and white.

Here are my latest 2 Serama chicks, hatched Jan 9th, pics just taken. They're from eggs that Jerry sent with a trio of young adults I bought. I have no idea of the color they are but they are such nice chicks
