Not here is isn't!! And I don't plan to get any chicks this year. I have 23 hens age nearly 8 to nearly a year. They've been ramping up production of late, usually 10 to 12 a day. Don't need any more! Of course come next fall and winter when they are all on their annual vacation I'll have none so I have to start freezing before they all shut down.Boy, is it quiet in here for it being chick season!
Chicks that were hatched in an incubator, have a low exposure to diseases. Chicks that were hatched under a broody would have been exposed and should be quarantinedI have studied the articles by @Blooie and by @aart , and I have tried (but failed) to read everything on this thread. I find the MHP idea very appealing and have designed a brooder (or jail or hospital) into my coop design so when my coop is finally finished and I am ready to introduce new chicks into my flock this feels like the way to go to minimize social disruption.
But I am worried about quarantine. Elsewhere on this site people say you should quarantine for at least 30 days. But by then the little chicks would barely need the MHP and will be quite large.
So how do you guys handle the quarantine issue when using this method to introduce new chicks?
